Ace makes short run models. 

So with molds that are worn out after a certain production number. Seeing is buying. Once out of production, the models are almost no longer available.

 

Box, plan and parts.

 

There is already a first problem at the start of building the chassis.  The pins and holes do not fit.

 

Pins removed  and the parts fit now.

Typical of short run kits like these with a lot of cleanup required.  Going to follow these. What is the weapon on the Kfz.4? Early mobile AAA weapon.

Continue with the construction.

 

The engine and rear compartiment are glued first. After drying 24h these will be cleaned (sanded) up. 

That's why I'm not following the plan.  These models require a lot of sanding and fitting in the beginning. If you  follow the plan and have assembled the small pieces first. Then you have many "oops" and " "

I notice there are no tabs....the first things to go in a poor fit situation    filler can be a big help here.  look'in good in spite of the fit.

Denis, pretty typical of these small production run kits, the lack of tabs/pins. Putty is your best bet.

Indeed these kits have virtually no pins or tabs to attach the parts to each other.

Ideal for those who like a challenge and have some free time.
A problem for those without experience and who are in a hurry.

 

Putty may be needed some times, but I use it as little as possible.

 

 

Seams and "bubbles" are sanded. Now mounting the mudguards (fenders)

Drilled a hole in each gearbox.

the dreaded sprue injection points.........some of these point can be very intrusive!   these remind me of the 'five and dime' kits I used to pick up when I was younger.........then again,  I've built a few of the more refined kits,  that gave me just as many fitz!

Unfortunately, these are necessary in a mold (a little bit smaller would have been more handy )

Hello,

 

The "radio car" is now ready for painting. The "AA car almost.  

 

Time to build the AA unit (Looks easy)

 

This should be the base plate on the floor in the car...

 

The base plate dry fitted in the car. These kits keep surprising me 🙈🙊

 

 

First do some research about this
The base plate may not have been mounted directly to the floor. Or the plate is too big in diameter.

I was looking at the instructions.........according to them,  it's mounted to the floor.   you may need to modify the ring.

this "trick" is not on my instructions.
apparently they discovered this error at ace and later adjusted the instructions

Mounted the base plate (thanks again Popeye) and build the MG mount 

ready for painting

Small painting update.

Painting is done in the same way as my other military models
Basic color
dry brushing with light gray (and then install the window)
Apply all other colors
To do , decals and dry brushing with sand.

The Stoewer Einheits Pkw. family. The 2 on the left are from the French company Al-by (resin)  Looking at the numbers, these were built at least 25 years ago

An ancestor of previous vehicles : The Stoewer M12 (build from parts of Hasegawa, Airfix and Esci)

Basically a normal car "sawn" in 2 and extended

Impressive my friend, especially at the scale your working in.... I would never have guessed that there were that many 1/72nd scale armor vehicles....

I once built about 60 of these models a year and had always about 100 kits in stock.
After years and years, I felt like Charlie Chaplin on the assembly line in his movie Modern Times 

Said to myself:   Backer, what are you doing, this is no longer a hobby.

So, did a big clean up of all these models and made new cabinets to place them ( this took me 2 years...)
And, start building something else.

 

Now i build boats  and a few military models.
