San Francisco 2 by msberkman - Artesania Latina - Scale 1:90 - my first wooden kit - Galleon S.XVI

Recommended Posts

The small boat is coming along very well...I have not yet decided if I am going to attempt building my own, modify the one provided with the kit, ot just use what I have been given. It this point, since I am now planking my ship for the third time, any thoughts to alternatives for anything else are on the backburner anyway.

I do not know why your pic size is different...I know I save all my pics at 800x600 so mine all look the same, perhaps yours saved at a higher pixel value?

msberkman,

We're building the same kit, SF II, but I am far behind from where you are. Yet another one to learn techniques and get ideas from. Gotta love this site.

Plus, from what I see, I'm betting your next build will be a scratch build. I think you have the skill and imagination.

Impressive, especially for a first build.

Hi msberkman, you are doing a nice job.   I made the San Francisco a couple of years ago and also substituted some of the metal parts, some because they were not right (for example: the carriages of the guns where 2 wheels not 4 in those ships) and others because they did not look good. I tried to improve another ones by supplementing them with additional pieces, eg. the lifeboat.  Additionally I substitute the banners and flags printing them with my computer in order to give them more "flexibility".   I attached some pictures of these changes.

Hi Scott, make sure you start a build log, there are a number of us building this model right now so there is a lot of help available.

Hi everyone,

After a long lazy period, I started my build again :)

I cut all the square windows and start to place the side moldings. I think I'll finish it in a few days.

Good to see you again :)

Looking really good man. This was my first full on wooden ship too and I couldn't think of a better first ship. You get the whole treatment and when it looks done it's so worth it. Take a look at some of the finished builds on here if you need any help. My build log is on here as well and I tried to really hit all the main points as I went along. Be patient, that's the best suggestion I have. Really funny with the lego guys too!

I have done the stringers between the decks and bulwarks. Then I made some inner reinforcements. I think it seems much prettier now.

I drilled a hole for the boom at the stern of the ship. But the back side of the hole is drilled too. So I cut a piece of apple wood to cover the hole as you can see in the next post.
