Panzerkampfwagen V Panther Ausf.A - Tamiya-1:35 by Edwardkenway - FINISHED

Recommended Posts

at least I caught this one early......  I'd tell ya what I use for an airbrush,  but you have one on the way.......mine can be bought for around $30.00.  gray isn't an incorrect color per say either......looking at images of panther tanks,  there were some that had the panzer gray,  but they were early variants.  chalk it up to a rogue unit ;)   I'm certain you'll have fun with these kits!

I yam wot I yam!

finished builds:
Billings Nordkap 476 / Billings Cux 87 / Billings Mary Ann / Billings AmericA - reissue
Billings Regina - bashed into the Susan A / Andrea Gail 1:20 - semi scratch w/ Billing instructions
M&M Fun Ship - semi scratch build / Gundalow - scratch build / Jeanne D'Arc - Heller
Phylly C & Denny-Zen - the Lobsie twins - bashed & semi scratch dual build

Billing T78 Norden

in dry dock:
Billing's Gothenborg 1:100 / Billing's Boulogne Etaples 1:20
Billing's Half Moon 1:40 - some scratch required
Revell U.S.S. United States 1:96 - plastic/ wood modified / Academy Titanic 1:400

Thankyou Patrick, although the box of mine says it's  an A version the model looks more like the G because mine does not have the armour plates on the flanks.

You are definitely building an A version.
The hull of the G version was different and simplified to increase production.
If you want to know the differences, no problem.

Thank you Patrick🙂

After a very hectic Christmas holiday with our UK restrictions, I've not been able to get on with any of my ongoing projects 😕

But I am hoping to get back to this as now I have been given an airbrush for my bday and I've decided to use this tank to practice on.

That said I have already had a go on some scrap ply and a styrene sheet I had picked up long ago, but i still expect thing to go awry.😏

Also I will be sharing my time with Winnie, so thanks for hanging in here.

Oh I know it's a bit late but.....

Happy  New Year  to all, let's hope for it going a bit smoother ;)

Well managed a hour or so on painting, although half of that was cleaning the airbrush.

20210106_181008.thumb.jpg.5b3be2002df4805c3079a0b2cca64f93.jpg

I am quite pleased with the very first attempt on an actual model, even if I say so myself ☺20210106_181035.thumb.jpg.4edc4c9b8fa483792970c72fc76d4c33.jpg

I used tamiya desert sand and a first pass of the camo pattern in khaki. 20210106_181053.thumb.jpg.7623f7939e5d1528e79861934057314d.jpg

I personally think the green needs to be darker.

More soon, thanks for looking in and the likes🙂

PS fees good to be back at the bench after  the last two weeks.

Cheers

Nice job on the airbrushing. But on my tablet the color appears more rust color than green or desert sand?  Unless Tamiya desert sand is more reddish than I would expect. The green camo appears more like a shadow, needs a tad more paint. But overall an xcellent first go at it.

So what do you think of your airbrush after the first use Edward? Do you think you are going to like the change? Can't comment on the color as I know nothing about German tanks, but the covering and texture look good from here.

Thanks Jack, hmm I see what you mean, it is more yellow in real life, honest, I think it may be my lighting in the room.

The green definitely needs more definition, I may use a bit of olive drab in it.

Thank you both.

I like it as it is quicker to cover an area and with practice I can only get better (I hope).

I think it will be extra useful when I get round to the Corsair.

Yep ! Agree. The color temp of the light effects how it looks in photo, tho I thought digital would auto correct. Very much a problem in film photography,  daylight versus tungsten

Yes the green is supposed to be khaki,  I'm going to redo with a khaki/olive mix.

I've seen some that were two color when all they had was green to paint with, but usually they were three color..... Sand Yellow, Forest Brown & Tree Green... (at least that is what I call them) I found that Military Brown, Olive Green over a sandy Yellow gives a good rendition of the scheme especially when washed with dark dark brown..... (won't pass the rivet counters or rusty bucket people though)

The nice thing about German camouflage between 1943-45 is that there is plenty of room for free interpretation.

If you don't want to use a brown color, that's fine too.

The only "general rule" for most German vehicles (Panthers also) is :
Sand color as a basis.

Green and or brown as additional colors.

No green and no brown, but only sandcolor is also allowed.

And when it snows and you have white paint and a brush. Then... a whitewash

Have fun

Especially in the summer... no set pattern either.... very similar to the french WWI three color camo they put on the FT-17s except the bloches were fewer and bigger....

I always thought painting camo on german tanks was the easiest of the bunch behind US tanks....
