1/35 Challenger 2 TES Rye Field Model RM5039

Recommended Posts

Hi all,  a wee bit of an update  -  I have managed to tidy up the hull, I used some small pieces of fine wet and dry  - and gently rubbed over the areas where the dust specks were, did quite a good job,   I have made a temp  holding device in the shape of a lolly stick that  spans under both edges of the turret ring  its wedged one end and secured by a small clip the other - I will be able to hold it now without fear of it falling.

So tomorrow  I should be able to give it a bit more paint in a couple of light layers  - same with the turret.

I also  decided to make the Chrome Dome on the commander a wee bit darker  so I used a darker shade of Green.

Evening all,   right  - paintwork rectified,   I made a bridge support that  was stuck spanning under the turret ring  from a lolly stick, I then attached Two of my large plastic clemps  and this afternoon  went out onto our patio  and did the first of Two layers, they both went on without incident and no dust this time as I wore a new glove,  I then put them aside to dry outside while we went for our dog walk, when we got back I gave them a check over and still fine and was dry enough/de gased to bring them inside.

I will be doing some detail painting and building/painting the small sections tomorrow  (I hope)?

Nah mate our dog is way to spoilt for that  - she sits in the armchair filing her nails, and tells us  to make notes of whats going on  - what dogs are out walking thier keepers  - we have to give her a full rundown when we get back  - then even do her some dinner  - its a good life for some.😁

As long as you only urinate on the bushes and clean up your poop I suppose it is OK.

Evening all, so  we started the day of  by insisting that the "spoiled pooch"  must come out on a  dog walk,  we decided to  go a slightly longer route that takes us along an old canal then we normaly take a short cut under a train bridge and into our local park, but we were stopped in our tracks (excuse the pun)  by a flooded  underpass under the train line - we had no choice but to turn back.  This added quite a distance to our dog walk  we found a bench rersted up than went home  - got in knackered.

After dinner I decided I must do abit  on the Chally  - first off I decided to touch in using my acrylic Nato Green  tin and brush  -  "upsss  - very flat out of the tin"  it stands out against the slight satin from the  tamiya rattle can,   so I made the drastic step of hand painting the whole  thing  (hull and turret)  using the flat acrylic with a brush slightly watered down.   It went on not too bad  but I was having to  mess witgh it a lot between the coats drying as I was getting brush marks on the  larger flat areas,    I decided in the end that these will probably polish out when the paint is hard using a soft cloth.

No pics again as I am not happy to show it yet.

Evening all  -  Abit more progress  with  pics  "Yeah":dancetl6:

So  - I had hand painted ontop of the rattle can finish  and it took fine just had a few brush marks, so this afternoon I attacked some of the areas on both the turret and the hull  with a cloth and basically  buffed the surface, this  smoothed out some of the brush marks  - but yep created a slightly shiny surface  (no issue there as the whole tank will be Flat Rattle can top coated last).

I also fitted the main commanders site  and painted it  along with the inside of the hatch covers and  did a few details.

Next will be to work on the tracks  (seperate links and guides)  so they can be painted/weathered then fitted  - then the side armour skirts can go on.

Here are a couple of pics including letting  commander  "manny" mannering  in on one of the pics  - he likes the lime light.

Evening all, today I started on some of the fiddly bits on the turret  - first I made the counter measures table and associated aerials,  then after this was painted underneath and legs - its was glued inplace, it will have the rest of it painted when the glue fully hardens,     next I have started making the 7.62 Goalkeeper RCMG  - this is made up from many parts and includes some quite difficult stages, its about a third finished.

Indeed Lou,   this one is designed to be used from inside the buttoned up turret using the sights inside, using both  optical and thermal sights, but also used in a more manual  use also.

With sights like that they probably don't even use tracers any more Mark. They can probably see every round in the thermal imager, along with the target!

I agree, I think our MK1 eyeballs coupled with the standard issue biological computer are getting old and outdated.:(

Yeah, don't forget, the tracer works both way. Our old Mark 1 eyeballs just aren't fast enough anymore. New aircraft gun-sights take so much into account for more accurate shooting.

Kinda tough if you're strafing a ground target. We set our hope on "speed is life" and prayed that the Golden BB didn't have your name on it. And jinking usually worked. Jinking is meant to spoil aimed fir, since you changed directions in all 3 planes about every 2 seconds. You come out feeling like you'd been homogenized in a blender, but the AAA usually missed.

Well,a 2 second burst put 200 rounds thru the barrels. Any longer could warp the barrels, which did happen occasionally. In order to hit a pin point target, you'd need to push the nose down while shooting. Not too hard but if close to terra firma, could have issues. So usually, it was meant more to scare the guys on the ground. A bunch of 20 mm slugs rattling around isn't much fun for the ground pounders. Getting a good secondary was considered gravy for the hot pass.

Evening all,    this eve  - I got round to trying abit of shading, only issue I had with it is the  brown  wash is enamel  (and smelly)   I  have a bottle of thinners that fankfully is odourless  (why the wash couldn't be the same),   anyway  I used a fine brush and just gently worked it in leaving very little claen up, I also painted the top of the countermeasures table and arials  and the rubber shiled around the barrel seal was painted Black, I did the same to the Hull  concentrating alot around the engine covers.

When it is dry tomorrow I will have a go at some  dry brushing with some dust wash.
