bit more soldering done

had hoped to finish that part today but had to do some after hours maintenace work on my works email servers, luckily i can do

it from home so while i monitor the progress i can be on here ;)

hopefuly tomorrow i l be able to finish and then ad dome sides and a cover to all the wiring and give it a bit of paint (white below / black on top) so that it all blends in

i also think i have figured out how to connect the 3rd deck and steering house

as this whole assembly wil be removable to get to the inside wiring i am thinking of using some thick copper wire i have from another kit that once the assembly is put in place connects up with the lower deck wiring

Nice progress Adrieke, it looks very neat.

If you connect a generator to the paddle wheel, you have a selfpowering lighting device by turning the wheel :D .

thanks for the confidence Sjors but i know where i am at and compared to most here i stil have a lot to learn

i do feel good about finishing the wiring for the lower 2 decks

testing showed that all 4 circuits are working

now i need to add some sides and a top to cover up the wiring

the top wil be painted black this should make it mostly invisible if looked at through the ventilation windows at the top

i can now concentrate on the build again and maybe assmeble the main stairs

Great Lighting Adrieke, done a fantistic job. When I see those lights coming out of the stateroom I got the feeling : "where's the bar, a double scotch please".

Regards,

John

Sorry, should be a double bourbon. . . .

Adrieke,

You'll be at it for a wee bit longer. You don't have a drill standard with electrical drill? That would speed things up considerably, and eases up on your hand ...

Hi Adrieke,

Nice to meet you also, just like John  :)

The light looks great.

I know what you mean by drilling all those holes.

That's why I gonna buy a drill standard  :)

I have to drill a lot of holes and don't wanna do it by hand….

this weekend has been all about the main stairs

i have been pondering about it and lookign at how others tacled this construction

they always say to cut things in bite size portions and thats what i did

the curved part consist of 8 steps making 180 degrees or 2 times 4 steps making 90 degrees

4 steps seemed doable so i started preparing :

i drilled some holes so that the dowels would be as deep as the point where the curved steps start

post-622-0-41586100-1364091005.jpg

from the left over from the sheet they came from i cut 6 small bits

post-622-0-09171800-1364091008.jpg

glueing them together to create a platform to rest the curved steps on while the glue dries

post-622-0-44356300-1364091009.jpg

at the base i glued a piece of strip against the middle of the dowel to push the first step against

post-622-0-93233600-1364091010.jpg

i used a metal angle bracket to measure the 90 degree angle

post-622-0-16187500-1364091013.jpg

i formed the platform a bit more so it would fit. all the elements are now ready

post-622-0-22047300-1364091016.jpg

the 4 curved steps glued in place

post-622-0-57155900-1364091018.jpg

after creating 2 sets of 4 steps i remembered i needed the others to curve the other way so i glued the base on the other side

continued

glued the first set to the dowel while it was on the base . the second set will easily fit on top using CA

fitted them on to the ship. i previously drilled holes in the deck so that the dowels would fit post-622-0-19387700-1364091873.jpg

post-622-0-32995200-1364091876.jpg

the top of the rails need a bit of sanding so they dont look as square

post-622-0-09201700-1364091879.jpg

then a bit of stain . bit of fine sanding after will make them lighter

post-622-0-15209200-1364091881.jpg

finaly using the stairs themselves and the platform i assmebled the 2 straigth steps

post-622-0-89996200-1364091882.jpg

the 2 long curved railings are wrapped around a toothpick holder to curve them

This is one of the hardest parts of this model, but you're doing very fine.

After this everything will be more easy ;).

thanks John and Wim. yes this must be the hardest part on this model

i actualy had more trouble with the straigth steps as each step holds on to the next only a little bit.

so i had several times that a step came loose before i finaly had it done

i have now added both the side railings on one of the stairs. i am going to let it dry over night just to be sure it stays together

post-622-0-65524500-1364126359.jpg

i am bending the top of the rails to prepare it for glueing it on.

the other stairs need to long curvy rail to be glued on but waiting for the first one to come out alright first

i had a bit of time left and drilled some more holes and glued the window framing parts on

Adrieke,

You're doing great mate. That's the right way you've tackled the stairs problem. Now they look real good, very sharp indeed. Those holes, well, it's maybe the proper thing to do, every day a few and some other work on the side ... Keep it up!

Yep, drilling is boring. After having finished the stairs I suppose you will go fast having prepared a lot of stuff already.

hi Carl

yup a few holes a day keeps me going ;)

hi John

i havent have much more prepared except the steering house

also i need to see if i have enough left over wood to scratch build the windows and doors.

my main concern now is making sure that i get the right curve in the ventilation window assembly as the idea is that it wil not be glued on to the 3rd deck for access to the wiring inside.

once i got that right i can finish 3rd deck and steeringhouse

but still lots to do before i get there

Having a look at the construction of the stairs you don't have to worry about the 3rd deck imo :).

I wish I have done the stairs the same way....
