I made my presentation some months ago and todat i decided to start working on this project. Step by step. There are many Polaris sailing in this forum and this one is going to be part of it hehe. I already made the first progress. In the last picture, nothing is glued. Daniel Filipe Posted February 19, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted February 19, 2021 I have placed the deck without any glue just to check if everything was ok. The fit was nice. The skeleton has a slightly curve and i was concerned about that. I finished the day with some wood sanding. I've used 1200 sandpaper btw. For the first time, using contact glue, in my opinion, i think i did a good job. It could be better of course. At the moment they are drying. Tomorow i will continue the process. Just make sure the bulkheads are faired properly, in the last picture it looks that you can remove more from bulkheads A8 aft-wards. Oh yes, I’ve been waiting for a curved sander to finish the job on that specific area. Bought a soldering iron and used hot water to bend. ‘Inside’ the bulwark, the black stripes were made from positioning the bulwark more than 1 second on the soldering iron. Didn’t know. Anyways.. BranPie Posted March 19, 2021 Share #28 Posted March 19, 2021 I'm building polaris as well (I'm a bit further along on first planking) and ran into the same problem albeit less pronounced. The problem is the protrusion from the false deck which the bulwark fits into. If you want to fit your plank better you 'll have to remove it, file that protrusion down and then refit your plank. I was lucky to catch this issue while dry fitting. Bear in mind that you' ll be sanding and filling your first planking anyway, so fixing this isn't really necessary. How is this model Polaris, compared to Buccaneer from Occre suitable for a complete beginner? I am quite interested in joining in this hobby, but I am afraid that with 0 experience (and tools) I will have difficult time compleeting such a project. Any tips are welcome, thank you. BranPie Posted March 19, 2021 Share #30 Posted March 19, 2021 I'm a total beginner and I'm working on Polaris. I bought the start kit to have some tools to begin with. It's a good starting point but the tools aren't the best quality (didn't expect that) and it's not enough to complete the build (at least I don't feel it is). Difficulty, at least for me, is really on point. It's challenging but not to the point of frustrating. I think the main difference with buccaneer is some extra complexity, mainly in the rigging. If you doubt your skill (I did/do) then Polaris really is a good starting point and as an added bonus, it's pretty inexpensive. Only downside is the quality of materials. That's not great, but for that price you can't have everything.
