Managed to get a couple of hours in last night, the aftermarket cockpit kit came out of the box and some very small P/E details were added.

A dry fit of some parts has given me some doubt as wether it will fit in the fuselage 🤔.

If it doesn't I will go back to the original cockpit that came with the kit😊20211005_222149.thumb.jpg.5525abf383575600f095fb15898ab24d.jpg

Also fitted all the wing hinges but forgot to take photos🙄

It is progressing slowly.

Thanks for the likes, and hanging around.

Cheers

both sides and rear bulkhead dry fitted,20211008_205248.thumb.jpg.4bd24f2b91b0e10dc822328b155c7fd7.jpg

the pedal thingys (actual technical term😆) are a bit wonky but my hand wouldn't stop trembling 🙄20211008_204516.thumb.jpg.744cbcae35f210c11d3531c95d43c473.jpg

Still got some detail  painting to do and the seat belts to put on the seat. I've started them and already cursing 🤬

P/E is a bit more challenging than I'd allowed for. Big respect to the people who work wonders with it, more often at smaller scales than this 😛

Appreciate all interest in a novice photoetch user muddling through!

Excellent work Edward,  I think the Pedal Thingy's  are  "Variable control pressure - combined plates using a leg muscle movement control - that initiates a control movement and actuation via a fine system linkage through put device, that in turn moves other device thingy's at the rear of the plane to make it fly or crash"

Or something like that😁

Cheers Craig!

Yes, even at this scale they're fiddly things, but perseverance is the name of the game, and I will fit them one way or another 😳

Thanks to everyone for the encouraging comments and for the 👍's up.

A little bit of an update, and it looks as though there is going to be some major bashing to fit the cockpit into the fuselage! This is because the cockpit is for the Trumpeter kit and not the Revell🙄20211013_213718.thumb.jpg.ef2fcd0f62c72fbf55a359bd0186817f.jpg

part of the kit had to be pared away to allow the instrument panel piece to fit in.20211013_213922.thumb.jpg.4d86daa420455e10fe35a98ea1f5c689.jpg

the underside is causing me a headache as the body of the cockpit prevents the wing assembly to sit in place🤔😶20211013_213851.thumb.jpg.2993de4e4f1d9bed436f4d1147a52b06.jpg

I'm thinking that the marked area may have to be sacrificed?, but once everything is fitted it won't be noticeable.

If none of this works I'll revert to the kits cockpit 😔

I don't want to do that though as the AF kit looks nice. Anyway I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks again for visiting 😊

The problem with the 1/32nd AM corsair cockpits for the trumpy kit is they replicate the fuselage walls along with all the bits for the cockpit itself...., you have to removes the details in the  kit fuselage halves and thin the resulting cockpit sides to make it work.... I actually read about a gent that cut off the cockpit section of the halves then glued the AM between the remaining forward and aft sections of the fuselage... he finished it off by building up the outer fuselage surface to match the two sections and rescribed the detail....

A lot of work.... personally when I do mine I'm going to try the Black Box cockpit designed specifically for the Revell bird.... It's actually more accurate and fits beautifully without any complex surgery.....

This conversion will work I"ve seen it done, just use your modelers patience and common sense brother, (you have them in spades) and you'll make it work.... it looks so much better than the kit offering....

Your very close now, it won't take much more....

Looking good, very impressive skills being shown....

Thanks EG for your faith in my dubious bashing skills, did I mention this is my first major foray into detailed add-ons🙄🤭

Yes the Black Box  cockpit is very nice, but I could not find one within a reasonable budget for the life of me at the time!😔

I've been doing some serious sanding and thinning of both fuselage and cockpit tub😊, I'm nearly there with an acceptable fit and putty/filler is on standby!

As I'm still wrestling with the P/E seat belts with my eyes going crossed after 10 minutes.

That's another advantage of the Black Box offering, it's all resin parts, no curse inducing photoetch😃

as can be seen the lower left belt on the back has no detail on it, this is a homemade replacement because the original part went MIA.

It may be quite a while before I dip my toes in P/E again🤪😂

The belts and cockpit look great.  The bad part is, they'll pretty much hidden once everything goes to together.

The fitting of the seat and rear bulkhead to the rest of the cockpit gave me another small setback!  Just as I thought it had all gone far too easy, there was a ping and the joystick went flying out, after a fruitless search,  I decided to make one from some wire and a piece of sprue.

With the replacement piece fitted, I gave the whole thing a trial run in the fuselage 😰20211022_214623.thumb.jpg.e7bf0402f18fc6aafb8a93bef46851ab.jpg

😊☺I'm calling it a success! The gaps will close up a touch more, and a bit of filler will make good any discrepancies. 20211022_214704.thumb.jpg.2f5f0e2f08918e7e0cb7e6e5cdebb551.jpg

The wing assembly also fits albeit with a slight gap, but again friend filler will help out.20211022_214633.thumb.jpg.ff74fe0e4e69b74e406e90196d41b6a7.jpg

next time it's glue it all together and give the bodywork and coat of primer.

As I remember, the lower wing center section was always problematic on that kit.... (and the joint from wing section to the assembled center section) It stands up very well and is a very nice kit still today, but it does take some patience to build properly....

Appreciated EG!

Yep the wing assembly sits somewhat badly even without any obstruction, and the curve of the top of the wing does not match the cut out on the fuselage,  that said it's nothing that putty/filler can't rectify 😉.
