HMS Pegasus by Mirabell61 - 1776-1777 - scale 1:64 - 16 gun - Finished

Recommended Posts

Amazing detail, Nils.  I'm surprised you can see an end-date, but then I also keep asking myself, how many details can one build include?

Terrific,

 Martin

Thanks Martin,

summer 2015, only a rough estimate Martin

should be done by that time.....

Your attention to the details of the rigging lead me to suspect that you have spent time sailing on a ship with rigging like this. It is one thing to follow a plan quite another to fully understand how the rigging actually works. Fantastic work Nils.

I have been sailing my own small gaff rigged day sailer for many years michael,

but in order to get additional helpful information in rigging the HMS Pegasus model I would`nt want to miss Lennarth Peterson`s and James Lees Books (makes all lines and their functions understandable together with splendid illustrations)

Fine work, Nils.  It's those 2 clove hitches that I've always found to be the most difficult, since they're the ones that too often end up being overly taut or slack.  You've got your technique down!

Cheers,

Martin

Hi Nils

Beautiful!  You continue to utterly amaze me with your talent and skills!

I know that this may sound like a daft question, but have you thought of publishing a book featuring the Pegasus, with step by step photos (in the same vein as Phil Reed's books?).  I'm sure there'd be market out there.  I'd buy one!

Cheers

Martin,

thank you very much, Yes you are right, the first tied lines came on a bit slack, but then the learning curve set in......

Jason,

thank you very much, here again the little sailors are of help to find the propper vertical ratline distances in 1:64 scale

Hi Patrick,

I have`nt thought about that yet, as I know there are extreme good and professional made volumes of building The "Swan Class" in scale 1:48 in a way I adore so much, as can be seen here at MSW. I shall raghter stick to having fun with the hobby, trying out ideas, etc., without any pressure or being bounded in obligations.

I have though thought about publishing something alike for my "Pamir" tallship model as there (to my knowledge) are only scarce good plans and even less build logs illustrated step by step, and posted for the interested clientel. Thats also why a had made so many photos of all building sequences

Great start on the ratlines Nils. After a while, you can almost tie clove hitches in your sleep. :)

Bob

Thanks Bob,

have a question.....

did you also apply a  drop of thin viscosity CA or other glue (per toothpick) to the individual hitches in order to prevent slipping vertical on the shrouds on your "Essex" ratlines ?

thank you Crackers,

I do`nt mind tieing the ratlines, at least if there is enough Access to do so, what brings frust is when by mistake the wrong end of the line is snipped off

Why on earth would you do that ... even by mistake ... You'ld better double check your line's ends when playing with scissors

Little update

I did`nt have so much time the last days, but now I`m continuing with the mizzen mast rigging.

the lower cross jack yard is rigged and mounted, and the smaller, upper mizzen Topsail yard is ready for attaching the topsail.

The topgallant main stay sail is also mounted

I am surprised how much finest dust particles have settled on the lower interior decks in all those months, will need to find a solution to extract that dust through the "open" port side. Once the model is completed I will have the glass case for dust protection

the upper mizzen topsail yard is one of the smallest, but requires a full rigging for operating the sail

sail check with the upper mizzen yard

the crossjack yard is already mounted and rigged

the weather side -truss tackle, just above the catharpin-rigging level, is loosened a bit to allow adequate bracing

one side of the parrel tackle is still open until the yard gets rigged to the ship
