Hi everyone,

In a matter of 8 days, I will be graduating with a BA in Anthropology and a BS in Biological Sciences. From there I wil be going to graduate school in Illinois to become a professional archaeologist. Never thought I could make a career out of this, but hard work really pays off, and I have received supervisor positions the past two years for archaeology field schools. Looking forward to getting in the field in May as we begin at a new site in SW Ohio! So essentially I am an archaeologist focusing on Midwestern Native American prehistory. It is my love for history that draws me towards ship modeling.

Cheers,

Tyler

Congrats Tyler.  Which college are you going to attend?

I started out as a fisherman, then a summer as a dredge crewman. 4 years in the Coast Guard then got into doing auto body repair and worked up to being a shop manager for 20 years. In 02 I went back to fishing as a Lobster boat stern man for a year and had so many old customers calling to see where I was working I started a one man shop at home. I just do small dent and scratch jobs now.with some days goofing off to go sailing.  I started boat building as a hobby about 10 years ago and am now a volunteer at the Cape Cod Maritime Museum teaching kids how to build boats. with what is called  Building To Teach.

At the risk of starting a chain of lawyer jokes, I am, you guessed it - a lawyer! I'm not the kind however that chases ambulances, I do corporate commercial law (in England I would be considered a solicitor) and have done so for the past 21 years. It does take a toll and this hobby is both a way to relax and as I start to think more and more (and more!) about retirement, I envision this as a hobby I will embrace even more in the future. I think what I appreciate the most about this hobby it is the opportunity to do something that is does not use electronics (except here of course!) and where we operate on our own timeline - answerable only to ourselves.

We always said "we would move to one of the remote area's of Scotland" So that is what we have done. We now work 18hr shifts 7 days a week in the Summer. But get the Winter's Mainly to our selves

I've been with the same company for close to 30 years.  My company is a major contractor in Canada and we work in the commercial and industrial fields.  We specialize in mechanical, electrical and HVAC work.  Although we have in the past we really don't do Civil Work or are not usually the general contractors.  In the last 20 years or so we have been getting more involved with Nuclear Power Plants and are now one of the leading contractors in that field.  I have been heavily involved with the nuclear side of my company.  My official job title is Purchasing Agent.  My responsibility involves buying all the products that we need to fulfil our contract.  One day I could buy a toilet while the next I could buy a turbine generator.  I have been sticking closely to the nuclear side and I'm sure you can appreciate that buying a pipe fitting for the local sandwich store is a little different than buying the same pipe fitting for a nuclear power plant. In truth, I have spent over $12 million on a single purchase one day, then spent $10.95 the next.  I'm very versatile.  But for whatever reason, I can't figure out a tiny wooden model :P

I am a diesel engineer specialising in building marine engines for Cummins... a couple of fun projects I helped out on are two round the world record holders, ( I actually built an engine for the cable and wireless boat without realising it!) Round Britain boat race  is coming up, so am hoping to install a couple of engines into the boat that James May had in Top Gear, and repeat the success we had in the classic section last time... I should really make some models of the boats I fit engines in now I think about it... :D

The Reuben sandwich is an American hot sandwich composed of corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing, grilled between slices of rye bread.

Reuben Kulakofsky a Jewish Lithuanian-born grocer residing in Omaha, Nebraska, was said to be the inventor.  (paraphrased from Wikipedia).

Done correctly, it is one of the best sandwiches I know of.

BTW, I'm an electrical engineer in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  I worked for a relatively small aerospace firm, which got sold to a huge aerospace firm, who subsequently shut it down.  I now work for one of the national laboratories.  It'll do until retirement, now 2.541 years away.  Not that I'm counting the hours . . .
