Hello all,

Okay, so I have a real test for all of you Lindberg fans. I am trying to identify a Lindberg model ship I purchased as a kid back in 1978-1980, and have only seen it once since on eBay long ago.

The best way I can describe this model was that she was a WWII cutter/DE, possibly and was possibly the USS Taney or USS Roberts, but the closest I have found to the ship's design was the USS De long. But the model I had had two masts? One was aft of the bridge and the other was aft of the main funnel.

She sported the same weapons layout as the De long, but looked more like the Taney? Please keep in mind this was 40 years ago, and no I didn't start smoking pot until a few years later lol!

Cheers Mates!

Was it the Lindberg Blue Devil Destroyer?

I had that one back in the 1980’s.

It is 1/125 scale and meant to be motorized.

It is still in production.

I almost bought another one a couple years ago, but I have way too many models in my stash as it is.

Building: 1:64 HMS Revenge (Victory Models plans)

1:64 Cat Esther (17th Century Dutch Merchant Ships)

On the building slip: 1:72 French Ironclad Magenta (original shipyard plans)

On hold: 1:98 Mantua HMS Victory (kit bash), 1:96 Shipyard HMS Mercury

Favorite finished builds:  1:60 Sampang Good Fortune (Amati plans), 1:200 Orel Ironclad Solferino, 1:72 Schooner Hannah (Hahn plans), 1:72 Privateer Prince de Neufchatel (Chapelle plans), Model Shipways Sultana, Heller La Reale, Encore USS Olympia

Goal: Become better than I was yesterday

That model is clearly the Revell 1/305 scale USCGC Taney.  (Not a Lindberg kit!).  It was originally released as USCGC Campbell, a sistership.   Built as kitted,  it is a model of the Campbell in her Korean War-era fit.  (The seven ships of the class went through a lot of changes over their 45-50 years of service!)

I built that kit as the USCGC Duane, as she appeared ca. 1981, for an old friend and classmate who served on her.  I documented my build here:

FWIW, The Destroyer Escort kit looks like Revell 1/240 scale USS Buckley class.

In progress:

BlueJacket Lobster Smack 1/8 scale (RC)

1/96 Revenue Cutter Harriet Lane RC scratchbuild

completed:

1/144 scale USS Guadalcanal CVE-60 RC scratchbuild

Revell 1/305 USCG 327’ Secretary class cutter

Dumas 1/16 scale USCG Motor Lifeboat 36500 (RC)

Lindberg 1/95 USCG Lightship LV-112 “Nantucket” RC conversion

I built that kit also while on Charge of Quarters (CG) duty in US Army 1965-1967. The real W37 in Baltimore's Inner Harbor was stripped of her name, she's no longer known as Roger B Thaney, now simply W37.  Thank the "woke" generation for rewriting history.
