Fokker Dr1 by Javlin - FINISHED - Revell - 1/28

I thought it be best to start a thread on this instead of posting in the Re.2005 thread.I have applied some oils I actually have the whole plane done now dare not touch anymore ATTM.The oils do leave a brush stroke pattern even with me thinning some with mineral sprites it is a little better but strokes still present.I am thinking this may just work??:Whew:

Please note that the green color was applied by Fokker using a stiff brushes to deliberately obtain a streaked finish. I am looking forward to see this classic finished.

Dan

PS - I just noticed that the start of this build is appended to the Re 2005 one. I see that the streaking finish is what you are aiming at, so discard my comment above. If you would like to accept a comment on the result so far, I would say that it conveys the impression. However, in my view, we have to consider that the finish was done manually by brush strokes and if you imagine a person in scale doing that, probably you could have obtained a finer (smaller scale) texture. But this is just a thought of mine.

Thanks Dan this kit almost hit the trash can some time back been at it for 3/5 months now.I had already bought the decals and I am waiting for a GB to start on another forum and decided to give it another go.The idea is as you stated to lend itself to that impression and think once rigged and decaled it will look the part methinks.;)

Got some touch-ups but not much.

Got some decals going down as you can see no guns yet and hardly nothing for the pit it was plain did not even worry about the IP.I am building this kit one for FUN and to teach a new painting technique for myself once it hits the cabinet it's done on reviews.I may get a MENG kit after this one of the Dr1 and play with that one a bit before I move on to the WNW kit I have.;)

That's were the instrument pilot sits. Oops, they didn't have much more than a compass and airspeed back then. Sorry, the canvas over the rear seat just deserved that. Old WSO mentality got me.

the only thing I see are the anchors on the side.......I feel the lettering should have been over them.   all 'n all though,  the camo is really good....nice streaking.  I think it's why I love this era of planes so much.......especially the German planes.  each jasta had their individual camo and art work..........flying canvas  ;)

you need another one to keep it company  ;)

It's what the instructions depicted Denis so it was. I have seen that done also on the P-51's on the tail red over the serial numbers methinks enough there for a good ID.;)

no dispute intended........I've seen it before as well :)   basically, it's a production number and the additional 'artwork' was put on after it was delivered.   I've also seen it on decal sheets thinking it was a misprint.  it's a small bit of detail that I sometimes didn't follow.   my thinking for the obscure,  even though I think it would look better the other way around,  turns out to be detail missed.  I'll keep that in mind  ;)  I still think you produced a fine looking model..........that needs no adjustment at all!

  • 4 weeks later...

I am calling this one finished clearing the bench Boys for the GB.The rigging is just stretched grey sprue and the cocking mechanism for the MG's just was being a PIA said FIT.The build was really to see if I could pull a paint scheme as such for other builds down the road and a cheap kit with a poor fit was a good test it took me 8 months off/on to get this done. The trash can looked appealing more than once.<_<

Thanks Mark I had forgot to add those wing stabilizers(?) to the lower wing was clearing that desk found them done now.I am setting up to start the S-100 Schnellboat 1/72 with the full Eduard Compliment then on to the 1/32 Ar-196 the GB is "Let's get Wet" any scale and if it hit the water.I think one person is toying with a Dio of the Dunkirk Spit.:stunned:

I actually finished a little 1/72 Sopwith Tripe it's so small.:P

Lovely done. Carefully assembled and very precisely painted. Indeed, you got a great looking model out of this old kit.
