USS Constitution by Hipexec - FINISHED - Constructo - 1:82

Recommended Posts

I'm nearing the end of the road in building my Connie, so my Admiral keeps asking m, "is it done yet...is it done yet?" Well, it isn't even though it looks like it's finished. So, I put the ship in the living room when not working on it. What can I say?

She looks good setting there Rich! However, after seeing the first pic, I hope the Admiral isn't waiting around with a bottle in her hand just waiting to club it when it's done.  :D  :D

Cheers

I have a lot of tidying up to do, plus two jolly boats to be built and installed. Then a case to protect her. Also...I'll be moving my shipyard to the garage. So, the next model is off a bit.

Until you get her in a case you might want to borrow some ropes from the Movie theater to keep everyone away from her. I think I got more nervous every day the ship was not in a case. She is looking great. You (and your admiral) should be proud. Many Connies are started but few finished.

Its not the size of the ship, but the bore of the cannon!

Thanks for the nice comments.....she's basically finished, but I'll be "tweaking it" for a little bit more. I'm making mental notes on what to do and what to NOT do in my next build. I learned enough during this build to fill an encyclopedia. You know...."If I knew then what I know now..."  I'd have a heck of a lot nicer ship. You all bailed me out so many times I can't count them. Thanks!

Rich,

You can be proud what you have done so far.

When you go back to the first page and then to the last.....a world of difference !

You enjoy it but so are we !

The whole trip !!!!!!!!

Rich, you were brave to add sails and now you can say 'I've done it' and be proud of it.

Looks great and I just know that your admiral will agree.

I started building two jolly boats for the port and starboard davits. Even though I started with two aluminum cast shells from BlueJacket, There's a lot more work than meets the eye. The shells were a perfect size and shape with nice detail, but they required some "Dremel sculpting" to get them just right. I just finished the floor decking and will start on the seating, oars, block and tackle etc.

I just installed the "VIP" seating on the jolly boats. The rowers are next. Notice my self drawn pencil sketched plans. Constucto doesn't show boats hanging from davits, so I'm on my own. I looked at several books on ship's small boats and came up with this plan.

I'm practicing rigging the jolly boats while I finish designing and building the accessories.

I'm slowly adding "stuff" to the jolly boats. I made an oar factory and added tillers & rudders. Also a Flemish coil mooring line. Thank goodness I have a monstrous scrap pile to pick and chose the floor grates, seats, rudders and oars from. They're still a work in progress.

I finally mounted the jolly boats. This effectively completes the ship.....but ...you know....and I know....I'll be "tweeking" her until I start a new ship. I still have to get or build a case.

As requested....here's some pics of the completed Connie. I have to laugh...all the work we put into the deck and guns, etc....and they wind up barely visible. Just like the hull planks....nobody (but me) looks down there.

You're right.  Nobody notices the planking or the deck details, even if some deck details are missing.  But if what is there is not built neatly.  That you hear about.
