I have copies of Fred Hocker's "Vasa A Swedish Warship" and Erling Matz & the Vasa Museum's "Vasa 1628". I am looking for more details and photos of the actual ship instead of more about the history and recovery of the ship. Is the "Vasa 1" book going to provide that or is the 2nd book the one that I'll want? Thanks for any help.

Edited to take the extra "e" out of "Sweedish" :)

Current build: AL Morgan's Whaleboat (1st build)

Kits in the ships locker: I cannot confirm nor deny that there may be a few kits in there...

Hello Buck.

You can go to this forum and ask directly Dr. Fred Hocker, Director of Research at Vasa Museum.

No one better than him to answer your question, since he is directly involved in the making of these books.

Hope this helps.

I bought a few other book instead as it seemed very much to focus about the salvaging and recovering and personally it didnt offer many reference pictures for modeling. I think perhaps you get more reference with A Swedish Warship than this. It depends of what you look for of course. The book is very thorough and well made though so it definately is a great buy if youre interested in the salvaging.

A Swedish Warship has been a really great friend during my build.

Vasa 2 should be great to get a nice rigging.

Fred Hocker just gave this update about Vasa II:

http://warshipvasa.freeforums.net/thread/57/vasa-ii

Seems like they have found new information about how she was rigged and that the available reference and plans are wrong in some details. I will buy this book as soon as it is published.

Old topic but if anybody is interested, there is a used copy for sale in at a Swedish antiquarian shop. It's quite expensive though (~130$)

I must have been lucky. I happened to find this copy just a few weeks after it became available. So, sorry not available anymore. But I promise to make use of it in future models 🙂

Volume 2 is released now and is available in the museum shop!

You can also find it on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Vasa-II-Rigging-material-archaeological/dp/9188909115

However volume 1 is sold out everywhere :( is available in a second hand market for ridiculous collectible prices (3-5k USD, sky is the limit)
