Guest Tim I.

Stunning! The figurehead is beautiful!

I like your thought about adding the figurehead from Sam in the case. I hope we hear some good news soon on that front.

lucky you, Bob,   (great Job Janos),

that figurehead is fantastic, the "dot on the i " , it gives your build, which is already outstanding, a precious looking touch of art.

I hope you wo`nt paint it...

Due to scarce useage of colored paint, your ship is presenting much lovely natural wooden apeal, which I love

Hi Bob.

I agree that the figurehead is fantastic and Janos was very generous. It compliments all the great work

you have done on the bow and the rest of the ship. :)

I can only repeat what others have said Bob. The figurehead is fantastic and yet another example of how this site brings people together from all around the world in a very special way. Congratulations to Janos for both his skill and his generosity.

I can only add to what has already been said.  And, I wonder when Janos will open a figurehead/carving business since I will need some help on my next model.

Cheers.

Excellent work Bob. Having read this log from the beginning, there's no doubt you snatched victory from the jaws of defeat! Not an experience for the faint hearted.

Can you tell me how long the overall model will be including the bowsprit and spanker boom?

All the best,

Dan.

Thanks so much Dan for the kind words. As to the length overall, I haven't made the jib boom, flying jib boom and spanker boom yet, and have no overall drawing from which to measure, but my best estimate is that the length overall will be about 40".

I've now added the catharpins, futtock shrouds, futtock staves and ratlines on the futtock shrouds. The catharpins are simplified, being hitched to the shrouds rather than seized. I chose to do the ratlines on the futtock shrouds first to get a little practice before tackling the larger areas of the shrouds. It's been about 3 years since I'd done any ratlines and I was a little rusty at first, but it's like riding a bicycle -- you never forget. After the first 5 - 10 knots you fall into the tedious monotony and it goes pretty quickly. I'm now working on the main areas of the ratlines on the lower shrouds.

Fine work, Bob.  I think the tedium of the ratlines comes from trying to tie them all to a consistent tension, without too much droop and without bowing in the shrouds.  You've got it down.  Terrific.

Thanks so much to all for the very nice comments and the"likes". Very much appreciated.

Jimz66, the rigging plans I'm using are in AOTS Essex with rope and block sizes derived from Lees proportional tables.
