A big miss in only 42 to 48 hours

I really missed this site after only a few hours . It kind of went hand in hand with my cup of coffee. A big thank you to the technical guys or who ever brought it back to us. Well Done.

This one was an issue at the datacenter and not any issue with MSW itself.

There was a problem with the power which supplied many server cabinets at the datacenter and the outage took probably many 1000s if not 100,000's sites offline what depended on that datacenter. We were simply a casualty of that. The engineers there upgraded the power supplies and now we are back.

I was finally able to finally log on this morning at 4:24 EDT and there were four of us logged on. That's the least number of MSW members I've ever seen logged on, it was weird. I logged out and came back a couple of hours later and our site was down again. I logged on just now  and I'm grateful to see we're back up and running in fine fashion.

If during this outage you discovered how much you truly missed being able to log on to MSW to enjoy all the benefits that MSW provides and you're not a NRG member, then help by financially supporting MSW by becoming a NRG member.

I’m sure for those who remember the “Great Crash”, it felt a little like living the “Vietnam flashback PTSD Chihuahua” meme….

'Figured it was likely a 'temporary' glitch ...  and reminds one how quickly things could just 'go away' in the event of some cyber-war, gigantic solar mass ejection event aimed directly at earth (one knocked out all telegraphs in the 1800s) or some global catastrophe (don't want to imaging one right now) .  The convenience and scope of information available at one's fingertips through this and other forums is awesome, though, and it sure beats the 'old days' of scrounging through municipal libraries - which never had the sort of 'builders' techniques' laid-out with such clarity.

I'm doing things I never thought practical (or even possible) with present technology ... from complex spreadsheets to Photoshop wizardry to sound editing and desktop publishing.  'Guess the rewards justify the risks, and one can always try to minimize those with multiple thumb drive AND paper backups.

Oh dear, Ron! Withdrawal was as bad as that for you? It was simply that someone forgot to feed the meter.

…a reaction to DejaVu… many here will recall what happened a decade ago. My post was an after-the-fact, tounge-in-cheek.

Both as a member/moderator of MSW and in my official capacity as Chairman of the NRG, I want to give a big Thank you! to our administrative team, Jim and Chuck.  As it was explained to me, this was a problem of not enough electricity to power some the servers and power outages to our data center server.  Thousands of sites were affected.  Also having lost a build log after the Big Crash, I am grateful that nothing was lost.  Thank you again, gentlemen.

Not sure who to send this to, but I received this security message when I tried to access the site's article database:

Probably not related to this weekend's mishap, but thought you should know.

No, this is an entirely different thing.

The site's security certificate has expired and I'm dealing with the host in getting it sorted. It really is nothing to worry about.

That's good news from Toni and James.   These do seem to be weird times as such.  For awhile this weekend I wondering if it was sunspots and solar flairs as they were in the news.

I just went through this posting and happily found out that it wasn't due to something I did on my end. :Whew: I still remember the old Computers for Dummies manuals which emphatically declared that your computer won't blow up if you push the wrong button. Yes, but other bad things definitely could and in my case did! 🙈🙉🙊
