I would try to do a complete rigging job but would simplify the turnbuckles, using mainly flexible rigging thread, maybe Ca-ed in pre drilled holes and a drop of CA or white glue to simulate turnbuckles. The outmost wing rigging looks like flat material, where I may would use etched wiring, which would it make easier to have the right angled arrangement, without sag. wefalck Posted June 22, 2023 Share #11 Posted June 22, 2023 Ahh, a flying boat has been on my list for a long time, but I was rather thinking of one of the earlier Dorniers, but that would be scratchbuilding, as no kits are available. What engine used the Macchi? I took some pictures of Italian aero-engines in the technical museum in Milan a few weeks ago. I am not so familiar with the market, but there seems to be a lot of after-market stuff around for WW1 aircraft. However, I have the feeling that it is mainly for the 1/48 and 1/32 scales. Getting it to fit in its cowling is a challenge mind you. I’ll pretty much have to paint it then throw it together which means a nice solid gloss coat when I do that. Saturated the base with white glue and added pebbles, then scratch built a jetty out of wood from my wooden ship days. My plan is to pour clear resin in then park the Macchi in it. As you. And see I’ve done up the topside of the top wing, which is gloss so I can add the decals.
