Nice work Sjors, she's looking great. By the way, I just noticed your Avatar. You have seen the film Midnight Cowboy haven't you? Are you trying to tell us you've had a job change? :P;):D

Nicely done, Sjors.   She's coming together beautifully.

Edit: You might check that chimney... I can't tell but it looks like it is facing aft when it should be facing forward.

Thank you  :D  :D

@ Grant,

No, I'm not change jobs .

It lis because I have the late shift this week.

So I'll be driving in the dark.......

Not on a horse but on a bus !

In the asphalt jungle !!!

@ Mark,

I have take a look at the drawings and you are right.....strange.

For my feeling when I put the chimney the other way, the smoke is going the wrong way when the ship is sailing.

And the wind is blowing into the chimney and the fire goes out......

@ Popeye,

I can try that.

Maybe it works for me also ?

@ Piet,

Thank you.

And can you keep that Chiwawa at your own place ?

Our Rothweiller don't like that  :D  :D

I have try to remove the chimney but I think I will be having more damage .

So I'll keep it this way.

When someone ask me about it, I can always say that it is standing on a spindle.......

You can turn it any time you want !

How about that solution ? :D  :D

Sjors,

I do believe that these chimneys did swivel, at least on some ships. For instance, if the ship were swinging on its anchor, the wind would be blowing right down the chimney if it faced forward.

Maybe one of our history experts can verify this.

Tom,

Not all chimneys swiveled.  I can't speak for other countries but in the US and English ships, some were just open (square, l like a fireplace chimney), some were like the one Sjors has (fixed but with a bend at the top, square).  The swivel type was round and had a small fin on top.

Sjors, I would also have placed it looking forward, but...wanting to make you feel better here is a contemporary model with the chimney facing aft as you have it, I think you can sleep soundly!

Thank you  :D  :D

@ Larry,

Just do it !

It's fun and take more of your skills then you think !

Because it is bigger, you will see more !

There is no timetable to start such a beast......

@ Tom,

One of the experts has all ready answered.

This is what you've got when you are looking at other builds and not at the drawings...... :(

It's not correct what I have done but I keep it this way.

Lesson learned !

@ Mark,

Thank you for your expertise.......

Hello Sjors! She comes very good,I must say.

About the chimney: as I know the chimney can be turned. That.'s fx to be seen on HMS Victory. So it will be ok to show it in the position you choose on your Aga.

  • 2 weeks later...

On this beautiful, sunny day a little update !

Poop deck is planked and some furniture like the skylight is on it.

A few things to do left and we can go further with the outside.......

Sjors. Your ship is coming along really nice. That deck planking looks very real. Are you planning to add sails? If so, furled, fully displayed, or just partially displayed? What size of blocks did you use for cannon rigging?

I have the impression the rigging is going to be a real treat. ;)

Congratulations on the job you've done so far.
