Nice rider, Antony! I'm always amazed at how closely the builders of full sized ships such as Victory were able to mate these timbers to the underlying planks of varying thicknesses.

Hello Antony, just found your log as Bob did.

Amazing work you have done so far.

Believe me that if your next project is to make de Triton, mine is to make a cross section. One of 74 or 100 guns. I have been reading this summer “The last sailing battlefleet” by Charles D. Lambert and there are lots of cross section models that are master pieces by Symonds, Seppings…

I am thinking to do it at the same time of the Triton project. It´s just an idea. With a cross section you get pretty quickly to the fun stuff, the interior work, metal work, pumps, etc. I am not saying it is easy but I guess is someway “easier” to get to that stage.

Anyway, I will follow your build for sure.

Best wishes.

Daniel.

Hello Shipmates.

A Update..

Spent a bit of time doing the treenails in the hold area over the weekend.

The Dark treenails were soaked in stain for 1 hour then air dried they are tooth picks and I used a 0.8mm drill.

The light ones are normal tooth picks with a 0.6mm drill.

Will start to fix the ryders later on tonight. Will use the 1.1mm copper wire and also glue to hold them in place.

More pictures to follow as I proceed.

Hello shipmates.

Thanks Floyd and Michael for your nice comments :)

Have been a lot longer fitting the ryders than planed. I wanted a good fit and I have kept them A little rough finish as they would not have spent in the hold making things look nice.

Started to fit the ryders last night so will post more photos tonight.

Hi Nick.

I wish I lived neer Portsmouth. Then I would just pop in to the Victory for information that books don't show or describe.

So glad you are enjoying it. So an I.

It's my first scratch build and it's really interesting and satisfying to do something from from making the drawings to building.

Antony, it is so neat to see the level of detail that you are putting into this section, I can see that making these sections has a particular appeal and they are more educational than some models because they really draw attention to the methods of construction.

Hi Antony,

Absolutely beautiful work, the hold racks and the ryders turned out beautifully.

I hope to one day do a scrath build and a cross section similar to this would be a great project

Can't wait for your next update :D

Hello Shipmates.

Thank you all for your very nice comments. It is a very nice encouragement to continue and improve my skills.

I really am enjoying this build as there is so much to do.

The new bits so far I have learnt are :-

Drawing up plans and resurching details.

learning to use my saw. (Never cut wood before with a power saw.)

The planning of a method of construction. So important.( planning ahead)

What timbers are available to me. And where I can use them.

This list just shows what a newbie I am to Scratch building model ships :) LOL

Just started cutting timber for the Orlop deck so will post a few pictures tonight of my progress.

And will post a photo of the completed hold.
