pete48 Posted June 7, 2014 Author Share #135 Posted June 7, 2014 (edited) Today , Was a day of many Hats, I started by masking the deck and then spaying 3 coats of Flat white ( I did not want the glare from the gloss ) I then trimmed the cockpit Coamings, sanded them, and Stained them Cherry . Then I Started making the Pintles and Gudgeons , This is the first time that I have made metal parts ( I learned how to make them here on M.S.W. ) The Coamings have not been glued in. I then started making Cleats , I started by making metal ( brass ) one , That Failed miserably ( it ended up a blob of melted metal ) So I went online, Here as a mater of Fact. To Learn how to do it . ( This is a great website to learn new things ) I am Happy to be a member of M.S.W . Anyway , The first thing I realized is that I need thicker brass ( 1/8" thick for my scale ) There is an article in the metal Work, Soldering and Metal Fittings section here is the link :http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/4368-cuttingsanding-brass/page-1#entry125891 Michael Mott had made a posting that showed how he had made a cleat ( I belive for the Bristol Pilot Cutter ) I liked how it was done , So I made one out of wood Fashioned in that Manner ( it Scales to a 10" Cleat and will work perfect as the Bow Mooring Cleat). This was the way I was looking to make Cleats for a While now, Thank you Michael . I did make all the Turnbuckles and got a great start on the Bow Chain Plate .
