HMS Victory Cross Section by kapiteinhadock - Corel - 1:98 scale

Recommended Posts

I roamed around on this forum for quite a while now but never posted my own build log  . As I purchased a new kit I thought is about time I shared all my mistakes with all of you. I bought the Corel kit as it was easy available and decided to tweak it here and there as I have seen a few nice build logs on this forum.

As i'm an engineer on board of a dive support vessel my workshop is a bit small

Start of the build with many thanks to AntonyUK who had some PDF files with drawings so I can make some mock up frames post-1477-0-49925300-1386759583_thumb.jpg

Greetings to all, Jantje

Hi Jantje,

Welcome to MSW  :722972270: A very interesting kit you have chosen to build Ilike the cross sections because of the below deck detail they show. I tossed up between this kit and the bow section by panhart and went with the latter mainly because it was a bit bigger scale and I wanted to learn some more on how to plank a bluff bow without doing the whole ship, that's a project for the future.

Your wokspace looks great how lucky you  are building a ship on a ship. Looks like you have made a good start

Hi Jantje.

Welcome to MSW.

Nice cross section and will build into a nice display.

When it comes to the gun ports Do Not rely on the plans being true. The heights are a little out.

I like your extra false frames :) makes all the difference to the finished model.

Regards Antony.

Hi Jantje.

Looking good.

It's a good job your ship is not a timber one...She would be missing some of the hardwoods.

Are you going to Bash the kit ? I.E. make modifications to the build not supplied with the kit.

Have a happy Christmas and a nice new year.

Are you on shore leave for Christmas ? Time to visit the timber store :)

Keep us posted on your progress .

Regards Antony.

BTW brill book on EBay item number 271350654479. The 100 Gun Ship Victory. Very good price ATM .

Hi Antony

Im going to try and bash the kit but I have to wait until i can get some extra wood. I already ordered the book "the anatomy of Nelson's ships" from Longridge and "the 100-gun ship Victory" from McKay from the Book Depository. These should be waiting for me when I get home in Gib halfway January . For now I'm building with the PDF's I got from your build log.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year, Jantje

Great stuff!!  I am new to site, and myself have just started on the HMS Victory by Corel.   My project will be extremely slow, since I work and have to tons of "honey do's".   When I get a chance I will post my project, but in mean time will follow what you have going on.

Thanks Jon the build is stopped for six weeks as I'm off now  :)  I only build on board of my vessel and the model stays there.

Hi Antony thanks, your build is a big example for me hope to get close to your skills. I love your "big"Victory cross section.

Thanks Michael I will watch myself I still cant outrun a landing plane. Love your build of Wasa, I have been to the museum this summer it's a very surreal experience standing next to a ship thats build 386 years ago.

Kind regards, Jantje

Hello, I'm back again. The reason that it's been a while is that my company sold my previous vessel and I have been transferred. I had to get used to my new ship so I left all my modelling stuff at home. This shift I took my Victory with me and made a fresh start.I started with the chain pumps.

my wife got annoyed with me ranting about mistakes on my mary rose x section so bought me this for Xmas! Will be following your build closely!

Did you have any problems with the ribs as one of mine is quite distorted at the base, looks like a file on the top and filler is needed to bring it back in line...

Also curious as to how you intend to mount it... previous build logs suggest a brass post is used but my kit doesnt have this. I was thinking of adding in a couple of screws to raise it off the plinth, hiding the heads under the keelson, a couple of brass spacers, then recess the nuts into the plinth.
