HMS Victory by Rich.F - FINISHED - Caldercraft - Scale: 1/72

Hello Rich

Well done, things are going well. The part for the gunport lids are 491 lower gun deck gunport scuttle hinges. When you come to fit your gunport lids check out their configuration before you add the hinges. The lids are wider than deep. You will see what I mean if you measure them on page42. DAVID

HI All, I have been slowly working on the ship, Shes coming along nice and er, slow. A few minor changes made, (not reading plans properly) Took a break from building as i was getting home from work and not enjoying the build as it was becoming more of a chore than fun, Plus its been a nice summer ( well as good as England gets .. and now the Rugby is on well !! ) ...

The main problem I had was the gun port patterns (forecastle) 276, I made the error of not breaking out the bulkhead pattens 1-5  1-13,, and of course I have added the second planking etc, lets not forget the paint!!. I wasnt unill I placed the hand rails and the Snatch block (61) I realized my mistake ..........two weeks later........

The Upper deck is now finished and bulk walls in place, Im just cleaning up the build now touching up the paint etc, and going to work on... ( not sure).. must read the manual..

If any body want a copy of the manual i have them in a Word 2007 format.  (to big to upload here PM me with you email if you like)

Well thats it for now TC all.

Hello rich

The area you point out I guess is infront of the snatch block. Part number 125 ( main rail timber head) fits in front of the snatch block, and the plank sheer part number 380 fits between the timber heads as does the fife rail. See page 28 -29 the beakhead capping assembly, photo 25&26. The fife rail assy part 405 tucks up to inside face of the timber head The timber heads need to be shaped. DAVID

Hello All, Thanks for the comments and Likes, as always very much appreciated.

David Thanks again for you advice. soon as i have finished this coffee im going to head to the dry dock 10, and crack that whip out.

Nick, being dyslexic, I at times find it hard to follow the Text instructions at times, I highlight some bits. etc But im ok if there is some pictures/drawing to back up, What i have trying to do, is mach on the plans what the part numbers are, then ( take  look at other build logs) just to make sure its right, .. But also doing it my way to the best i can!..

I m going to work on this then, there is a holiday for a few weeks while I have  5 day course to do , and not looking forward to it !

Hi Rich

Your Vic is coming on great guns.

The question you asked - yes it is the Catheads that go on there.

Here's photo's of the assembled bits (great fun that little assy) and in position.

Keep up the good work

Nick

Greeting everyone.

Something I have been thinking of for a long while. I have had a personal chat with a Very Nice person (Ensign)

I have brought this netting, A few pictures attached, Do you think this is a good size in relation. bear in mind it will be a diamond shape.

Cheers

Rich,

I know an answer but I cannot translate it !!!!!!!

I will give it a go.....

Bow section is one squire to high.

Middle picture with railing is to small.

Right picture........good one.

What i will try to do is I will put the netting around the bracket things.

On the bottom I will lay down a plank ( painted black )

then at the top I will stitch it on the wire that goes true the eyes....

is this making sense ???????????

And yes, it should be diamond shape

Hi Rich.

1/72 is a larger ship, looking at your first picture I would say that was a good representation for size.

Diamond as you say.

Stitched to a wood or brass runner across the top should look nice and neat.

Hi Rich

For my Vic netting I followed this calculation

I estimated the 'pitch' on the real hammock netting to be approx. 8" square.

At a scale of 72:1 that comes out at about 3mm pitch

I guess the rope is about 1/2" - 3/4"

Again to scale that is about 0.2mm

hope that's helpful

Hi Rich,

The problem with Tuille, as I think you know, is that it is not a diamond shape. It is very flexible which is good but If the material you bought is not flexible enough you will have trouble with the Hammock cranes as it must form a U shape in order to cover both sides of the Hammock cranes.

If what you have is not satisfactory and you can't find any Mosquito netting PM me with your address and I shall send you some.

Gary

Hello All, Thanks for the comments and Likes, as always very much appreciated.

just a small update, Not much to show for a few weeks worth of work but, I like how this came out. The hand rails in the picture was the fourth attempt, did not like how they was coming out.

I did start building the remaining Cannons today, as all was out for the day at home. (chores done first)..

Cheers
