Just a thought (for the attention of the administrators) but could this be just the place for members who are currently unwell, off their legs (though not legless) or slowly recovering to gather for sympathy and operation scar comparison? I have noticed quite a few references from members concerning their health and I believe such a drop in forum could prove therapeutic to one and all. Of course overly graphic jpegs could not be allowed as we do not want to frighten the children but gentle murmurings of a compassionate nature to sooth the fevered brow etc could do no harm.

Hello, I am Mike and I have just returned from Total Knee Replacement surgery. I am at home trying to diligently do my exercises on a leg that is very swollen, technicoloured and painful. I am currently doubting my sanity having volunteered for this torture but expect to feel much better in the bye and bye. I have promised myself a" New Tool" buying spree for having been a good boy but will have to be careful not to get overexcited and raise my BP whilst lowering my bank balance.. From where I sit I can see my workshop but it might as well be on the moon and working on a tray on my lap is a joke. I can plan new projects, read shippy books and moan, oh how I moan! Does this strike a cord with others out there?

sorry to hear of your situation. you volunteered?.......now that's bravery I'm sure you'll feel all the better for it later. by the time that happens, you'll be able to get to the table and make a little sawdust. for now though, rest easy and do your exercises......it's the sure road to get you back there

I had a tear repaired in my left knee.....they wanted me to do physical therapy. I told them I'd get all the exercise I need back at work.........see ya!

I went to the doctor a while ago for a rash on my calf.....really itchy and bugged the hell out of me. after the doctor looked at it and we talked about what to do about it, the admiral brought up my belly button and how it has become an 'outtie' rather than the 'innie' she's known and loved. he had an intern with him that day.......he pushes in on it......felt very uncomfortable. he instructs her to do the same thing......CRIPES........felt like she was touching my spine! I ask her.....what....you think I'm the Pillsbury doughboy or something?!?! :D

I feel the pain about your knee. I am going to have surgery on my right knee next month on the 15th, and my workshop is downstairs I haven't been there in close to a month, I am not having a full replacement but after the right knee heals they have to go back to the left one and find outs what the heck is wrong with that now since they went in and fix it last year. The big problems with the knees being screw up is they can't do any work on my back until the knees are fix, so far I have fell twice because of the right knee. There are times I am just sitting and watching the TV and the dam things hurts like hell and I am not doing anything to make it mad at me. All the joints and pills in the world can't fix it and I usually get sick from the dam pills so I can't take most of the dam things, and after a person takes the pills that the doctors put you on you end up with other problems. So yes I understand what you mean about not being able to get to the workshop, it does suck. At least I got the laptop with me upstairs, had the kid get it for me. Been trying to work on some plastic kits for the kid, but you always end up needing something from the dam shop to do a certain part of the dam build. I have been downstairs a few times and that when the dam knee let go the second time and I fell coming up the stairs, so for now I haven't been going into the shop at all. And yes that does suck.

I hope things improve for you soon otherwise you will need to find something stronger than"dam"to express your feelings with. I have a collection of unrude expletives that get used when company is of the polite kind. Here is an example:

Mike, a buddy of mine had a total knee done this fall, he is a lot better now, but it was a nasty couple of months. You have my complete sympathy.

 

My guess at the acronym:

1st word is a verb or a noun, as in "taking a..." or "pile of..."

2nd, the same, but substitute "puddle" for "pile".

3rd, a form of biblical transportation.

4th, another verb that, much like the 2nd word, may be effectively combined with "off".

 

Joe, sorry to hear about the ongoing knee issues.  I hope they figure out something effective soon...

One of my partners had both knees done at the same time.  She was miserable for months.  A few years later she is happy to have done both but it was a nightmare for a while there.

Bob, thank you for the sympathy. My Doctor, whom I saw this morning, was also sympathetic and gave me a whole raft of interesting substances to take. " These will control your pain now get stuck into your exercises and no more whining" He is a good lad but his bedside manner is lousy.

 

You are not very close with the acronym nor are you sufficiently Anglo Saxon. Falstaff would have understood.

Had a ganglion cyst come up in a middle finger.  Went to the GP.  She deadened it real good and was able to aspirate quite a bit of gel out.

 

Pain went away quickly.

 

She warned that it will come back and next time best to see the hand surgeon.

 

Hope arthritis in hands does not progress too fast.

 

(my body seems to know it is 61 now and every joint seems sore.  Dr assures that it is osteo-arthritis and not much can be done.)

 

So many models I want to enjoy building, so many new skills and tricks to learn!

"is it serious enough?"......if it hurts, yes!

 

JB, Do some warm up exercises on your hands before working. There is a great danger of giving in to arthritis. Do not do it! The pain decreases as the interest and challenge of a project increases. Onwards and upwards.

   As far as the words go. Trust me I say them all the time, but I know I can't say them here LOL. Most have the F word in them and I know how to use it in so many different ways, and I say them every dam time I wake up or when I have to get up. Having both knees done at the same time, man she most have been doing some real good pain pills, which would for sure make me sick, just can't take the dam things, I end up screwing my back up. Heck I remember one time I knew I would not be able to make it to the bathroom or the kitchen sick or anywhere else except the washing machine LOL, well when I got done I put some bleach in and had it do a fake wash no one was wisher. When you got to up chuck you have no choice, or you end up having to clean the floor and I am not into being on my hands and knees doing that either. When getting old life some times is a BITCH, I turn 60 in a few months that will be when I start counting backwards. I WANT TO BE YOUNG AGAIN screw getting older, it's just not fun anymore LOL.

Old is not a number but a state of mind. My number is considerably higher than yours but I am not old. Not only am I not old but I have no intention of becoming so. 

A very dear friend of mine, a philosopher of sorts, once told me that in his opinion youth was wasted on the young and should be saved and savoured by those with sufficient life experience to appreciate it. His number is in the high eighties yet he is still the most challenging and provocative person that I know.

Give yourself another go mate.

I feel your pain hang in there. I had both knees replaced at the same time about 5 years ago. Best thing I ever did. After the surgery and a week in the hospital and a week in rehab my knees felt better than ever.
I suggest you do you home therapy as this is a big help. I had mine done in September and by the end of November I was playing golf again.

 

Hang in there it really does get better.

It counts but, for what it is worth, not a lot. I looked up your profile and at 29 you are looking at years of pain unless you can come up with a strategy to allow you to enjoy your working life. A good starting point is to do the work that you want to do and not that which is expected of you by others. If a man cannot enjoy his work he diminishes himself and puts him in a bad, bad place.

I have chronic lyme disease which is something I will suffer with the rest of my life. It attacks your whole body & even your brain. Some days the physical pain is worse, some days the mental confusion is worse, some days its both. Ship modeling is therapy for me on the days I can do it. I have a lot of nerve damage which makes it difficult to work with small things but I also have severe carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands. I am to have surgery on both wrists very soon. One 2 weeks apart from the other one. For a month or more I will not be able to work on my ship at all so I guess I will be reading a lot on these forums.

Hello everyone, and my sincere wishes for all to heal and remain in good health.  I thought to throw my two cents in here.  I am a recovering prostate cancer guy and am now undergoing treatment for bladder cancer.  Ay 80 years of age I am actually doing remarkably well.  One of my doctors joked and said, you are the healthiest sick person I have ever seen.  The proverbial pink rabbit !!!  

Fortunately I don't suffer with bad hips or bad knees and truly sympathize with all of yuns who have these problems.

 

The reason for me being able to understand what Vivian from Brazil is enduring is that many years ago I almost bled to death due to severe hemorrhaging from the unmentionable parts.  My blood count was down to 4 and before the doc could operate I had to get at least two doors for O negative blood.  He wound up removing the colon and large intestine out of the body to remove polyps on the abdomen side and then sew everything back together.  Mechanics would call that "bench work"   

 

I have been doing great ever since but now with my track record of polyps and cancer I thought to have one more look-see in the dark regions.  This'll be done next Monday and we hope everything will be okay.

 

I know, this procedure is a very controversial issue as of late but hey, at 80, what do I care.  I have already lived on borrowed time by the good graces of the Creator.  Yes, I should have been dead several times over but that's another story.  POW with the Japs during WW II.

 

Okay, we'll let all y'all know how things are turning out and everyone - - please hang in there and stay in a positive mental attitude.

I had both my carpal tunnels fixed. Most of my life I pruned plants and several years of programming. About 5 years ago it got bad and had problems with work and modeling. Had the right wrist fixed in 2013 and the left in Jan of 2014. Best thing. No more tingling and numbness. Arthritis is my problem in feet in knees. Celebrex is the answer. Used to be Viox but they took it off the market as too many people were getting heart attacks and died. It said on the label that is the risk. But there were too many idiots taking it anyway. Viox, was great, I miss it. Oh well.

You are right compared to the problems on this thread I really shouldn't complain.  My line of work is enjoyable but my current company is not.  Won't be to hard to fix that.

From start to finish a week.

I did have complications. Due to my pruning of plants for many decades my wrists are very muscular and thick. So a scope and a laser wasn't working so a larger scope with a saw did work. This is a rare occasion.

The right wrist3 hours, the left 4 hours. Stitches for 3 weeks.

Operation lasted 2 hours from me checking in to leaving. Next day, the PT instructed me to do exercises. Within a week I was completely heeled and moving right along. The hand surgeon (Dr. Nagel) likes to keep stitches in for 3 weeks.

 

My wife works for Northwestern Memorial in Chicago so any major surgeries are free. So 2 wrists, Colonoscopy and steroids for my wife's knee all free. It is one of the incentives when you work for one of the top best hospitals in the country. This hospital is also a teaching hospital. So actually my wrists were done by an intern under Dr. Nagel's supervision.

 

Last, My yacht Mary is going to Dr. Nagel as he can appreciate the intricate work of ship modeling.

Hope all is ok with your new knee and you have a spring in your step again . My Admiral had this op 3 years ago,after a couple of months she was as right as rain. I had bypass heart surgery last October and now feel at least 10 years younger,wish my body looked 10 years younger though. I´ve got more lines than Clapham Junction

My knee is not so good as I have an infection so putting it through it's paces is on hold for now. I think I am at least a couple of weeks behind the curve.

 

Be careful what you wish for! Looking ten years younger could put an awful strain on your actual abilities!

I have 7 days before my 1st carpal tunnel surgery. Because I am disabled from lyme disease I have to use a cane or walker. The 2nd surgery cant be done until I can put enough pressure on my wrist to walk with a cane. In my condition the Dr. says that might be a month or 2. Then the 2nd surgery. That will be a long time with only 1 hand or the other. Wont be able to work on my ship for who knows how long. Not looking forward to this!

Hello everyone,

 

This post is not about me and my health problems, which are by the way, extremely minor right now.  Provided that my bladder cancer treatment has worked.  Will know more next month after the results of the biopsy of the 28th comes back negative.

 

Instead of me I need to post a warning on one drug that's being prescribed by doctors for high blood pressure.  My neighbor is a Dr. and works in a local hospital, and told me that this drug causes blood vessels in the brain to burst with the result of death.  The amount of people dat have already died from this drug is way beyond the acceptable limit.  The drug is Xarelto (phonetically + Zarelto).

 

This is just a "heads-up" for tose who have a high blood pressure condition.

 

Yuns all stay in goof health and my prayers are going out for all.

I am back from stem cell extraction. Next month I go back for a month. The

problem with my firm of cancer is it destroys the bone structure. And the nervous system. Chemo and stem cell transfusion will extend it for many years. But the I might be repeating this nightmare over again. But my 3 week stay at the zone Lodge has taught me much about life and how many people deal and cope. And how it effects the I family and friends.
