Frank,

I'd say more but life has left me precious little time at the moment.  You're doing a fantastic job with her.

Thanks Mark.

I understand perfectly, being retired gives me more time to enjoy a build or take a look around.

Just wanted to acknowledge your continued support even if its only a LIKE This.

Hi David.

No not really tight, the wood dowl attached to the pinvise passes through the other gun port.

The pinvise its self is small enuff to fit inside this build, you can turn the pinvise with ease as the wood rod is out side as a handle.

I do not want to spoil the outer hull of the ship with lots of holes, so this way gives me attachments for eyelets without damaging the outer part of the ship.

Well its back to the guns we are.

This time to add flintlocks using Dafi's etch parts.

DSCF5439_zpsuvxsugej.jpg

Now some have the flintlock and some a cover for this.

Made from plastic exhaust pipes cut in half and a bit of plastic.

DSCF5438_zpszrxdw0rj.jpg

Here shows both types, used thin thread to hold covers and did about half and half of long and short 12 Pounders.

Should show a bit of interest.

Hi,

I'm very new to this site but tackled tall ships some thirty years ago. Nothing like this as there was only really airfix at the time. Your ageing a great job probably far better than i will as I'm just waiting for the kit to arrive.

I'm using and areing over the etched parts. Not that there is anything wrong with them they are fab. It's just the cost. Could you share some advice/views about them. As they are something I'll be having to buy, if I do, as I go along. And was hopeful you could advise me in which order to get them?

And any other tips please.

Thanks

Ongoing builds,

Hi Izzy  Madd.

Well to start with the etched parts are very good and so far I have had no problems.

The best way to start is with the eyelets, they come in different sizes on one fret, and are very usefull when doing the cannons.

Which I expect will be your first start on this ship.

The fret for hammock nets is also a must.

This has many other etch for this ship.

If you download Dafis helpful hints on the frets he produces, this will help you also to decide which you want and do not.

I purchased all of them including the resin parts.

It all depends on what period the Victory you want as to weather you are going to change the steps entry port etc.

I assume you have Dafis site, this should help you decide.

I hope this helps, if not ask away, Until you decide how you are going to change the ship appearance  its hard to give you an exact want and want not.

Will do me best.

I see you have all sorted izzy.

Well all the eyelets are fitted ready to install guns.
Will be removing the cannon balls and replacing with better one's.

Just some sanding of the apertures then paint.

Also started on the bow end
DSCF5447_zps7mu0hj9n.jpg
Clamped till dry.

Test fitted to make sure all seats right.

Beginning to look like a ship now.

  • 4 weeks later...

Cheers Keith, just what I am doing.

But still manage to take a peek at this build and do some small things to it.

Marked out the lines for the planking after removing most detail to make again later.

But since then Had some more info on what the spacing for planking and layout should be.

Thanks to Daniel for helping before I started laying the planks.
But did manage to lay a couple of carpets.

More soon me thinks.

Well managed to sort out the problem, seems PB have changed the setup.

Started on the boats for this ship.

DSCF5668_zpsq9shmjgd.jpg

Using some from Heller and some from other sources.

First the 34 Ft Barge, this has been extended from the Connie ship, have a resin one to take over from this.

DSCF5670_zpsekgbgtaq.jpg

Ribbed out.

DSCF5675_zpsumt7lkcs.jpg

Added side supports for the bench's plus Dafis PE grating.

DSCF5684_zpspllrvhkd.jpg

Maple wood for the base boards.

DSCF5688_zps3iuo4cgq.jpg

A coat of primer.

Next its the 32Ft Barge, this using the Heller boat.

DSCF5690_zpsoc2bg03s.jpg

DSCF5694_zpscfhpois0.jpg

Same principle As other barge with ribbing and supports for bench's.

Some more to the other boats needed.
First the 34Ft Barge.

DSCF5714_zpssk54bs0o.jpg
Added some more detail to the boat.
DSCF5715_zpsnjhcessr.jpg
DSCF5722_zpsn89cm8xc.jpg
Added tape to the hull for planking.
DSCF5720_zpsfmytsmxe.jpg

Again the 32Ft Barge.

DSCF5716_zpsa7atjb9m.jpg

DSCF5717_zpsicnkvndn.jpg

Next is the 28Ft Pinnace.

So as not to bore you I have advanced somewhat with this one.
DSCF5700_zpsn6e90epw.jpg

DSCF5701_zpsdln0jq8o.jpg

Next is the little 18FT cutter, for this one I used a 150 Connie boat, this entailed having to cut in half.

DSCF5693_zpsse6jeqj8.jpg

DSCF5697_zpsevsyzpbi.jpg

Again I added tape to the hull for planking.
DSCF5718_zpswzy0uleb.jpg

DSCF5721_zpsyvrpxuhx.jpg

Last is one of the 25Ft Cutters.
This when built will be hanging from a davit.
DSCF5725_zpsbgqfjvti.jpg

Used a 1/96 Connie boat for this.
DSCF5723_zps43uoo1cp.jpg
Added some extra keel plus ribbing.

Once up to scratch will be using these paints after a Tamiya primer that coats brass as well as plastic.

More soon.

Hi David.

Well to the paints, the majority are from Admiralty  Paints, water based and for me the best for both worlds, plastic or wood.

Vallego is the one on the left, again water based and very good too.

Thanks for the compliment. much appreciated.

The Oars are the next problem to solve, will be scratched using four parts as the upper is square while the rest of the shaft is round, with a round hand piece and of course the spade at the end.

Cheers guy's.

Same here Keith on finding suitable boats, but had some help with these form the Victory and model resource site.

So after finding boats from other kits I managed to have five out of the six boats required.

All as you see were very basic, but again with a little help from my friends('there's a song there somewhere')I managed to make enuff to give some idea of the types of boats Victory carried.

All the oars have to be scratch built, but its a pleasure to get to grips with this, once you have the idea in how to go about it.

Next problem is the hammock nets, the Heller one's are not bad but to thin.

Lucky I have two sets, so a marriage may be ness.

Another update. This time on the hammocks, I used the Heller one's for this, lucky I had two sets, the one's that come with the kit are to thin so decided to double up.
DSCF5776_zps8fsjl37b.jpg
Sanded down one side of each same length.
Glued under pressure.
DSCF5777_zps8njaoqdv.jpg

Once dry added plastic filler to the top surface.
DSCF5779_zpsuqmepka3.jpg
Sprayed from a can a plastic primer and left to dry.
DSCF5781_zpsbyfxvokh.jpg

Then sprayed when dry a mix of buff and white(Humbrol)
DSCF5787_zpsxrp5rwyo.jpg
Bit o weathering later, job done.
