November 17, 2014: The adventure begins! (well, kind of.) My Niagara kit and tools arrived today. I can't get started on it yet though. First I need to finish putting together my workbench and organizing my work area. I'm also still waiting for my Fair-A-Frame from Model Expo. Definitely going to be taking my time with this build!

Sure, I've got a bunch of camp chairs in my garage that I can set up! I'm not going to start on this one just yet. I'm just at the stage of "got the kit." I need to finish setting up my work area. Also, as this is my very first wooden ship kit, I am going to build Revell's 1/96 USS Constitution to help hone my rigging skills on the Niagara. There will be a build log for her too. Since it will be a looong time before I'm rigging the Niagara maybe I'll alternate work between them and work on them concurrently.

November 20, 2014: Even though the ship has not been started, an important part of the process is setting up a suitable work area. I have cleaned out a spare bedroom and began building a workbench. Cost of materials, lighting, and power was $100.03. Here construction has just begun with the framing of the benchtop. It is now almost complete. I wll post a pic when it is finished.

SgtSki,

welcome to the empty nesters club.  My wife and I are recent members and find it takes some getting use to all the spare time, hence the new hobby. Great looking work bench, I was surprised the admiral would let you cut all the lumber in the room.  Good luck on your Constitution and Niagara builds.

Welcome to the Niagara club. I am currently building Niagara & it is also my first wooden ship. I am finishing the hull & getting ready to start rigging. As a beginner, I tailored my build log toward other beginners. You might check it out for some different ways of tackling problems that arise.

I still haven't gotten the Niagara started yet. I was sidetracked by the holidays. The Admiral also has indicated that I need to build off a couple of plastic kits first which I was graciously authorized to purchase. One is an Entex 1913 Ford Model T van in 1:16 scale which is almost finished. The second is a 1974 release of the Revell 1:96 USS Constitution which will begin immediately thereafter. There WILL be a build log on it. So I must regretfully announce that my Niagara build is postponed until the Connie is finished. I may build the Connie and the Niagara simultaneously, I haven't decided yet. In the meantime, I will be keeping a weather eye on the rest of the Niagara Club's build logs!
