Matija,

That is some wonderful work. From the served standing rigging to the spars and ironwork, i love it all. I really lkke the scale of the rigging/block ironwork on the main boom and others in the photos. I see your main mast chainplates are routed through the monkey rail and not on its outer side. My Arethusa has that same feature - just a little detail requiring some planning.

Cheers,

Elia

Elia,

thanks to your likes. :)

When I compare your Schooner Arethusa, the more I like your way of working. Your work is neat and correct, I would love to be achieved,  am a bit jealous. ;)

According to what I seen, Schooner were similar in the making of certain parts.

In preparing I used the excellent book: The American Fishing Schooners: 1825-1935 By Howard Chapelle.

Matija,

More beautiful work! I like the brailles on the main and fore gaffs, along with all of that rigging. Nice. A great looking model.

I too refer to Howard Chapelle's AFS, a great reference and resource for these fishermen.

Cheers,

Matija,

Super stuff! The dories really catch my eye. I'm working on my first one now. I'm not sure how I'll get 10 to 12 made. Yours look great, and I really like those stacked dories!

The overall shots show how it comes together - a real beauty of a fisherman (racer

Thanks Elia, I'm glad that you like my work (and to everyone else who likes).

Dories were difficult to make, I made them a total of twenty until I got a satisfactory appearance.

Bluenose is currently displayed at the national competition ship modelers in Rijeka / Croatia. It is located in the city center in the window:

From another Canadian, lovely job -- you've produced a wonderful rendition of a beautiful vessel.  Congratulations.

Can I ask how you did the dories?  I'm restoring and completing a Grand Banks fishing schooner and would like to add some.

All the best for Christmas.

Rick,

I'm glad that you like my Bluenose. :)

Dories is made on a wooden mold and I glue wooden Planks. After that I glued frames inside.
Here are some photos.
If you need more description, just ask.
I have a good draft of Dory that can give way if you need.

also I wish everyone a Merry Christmas.

Dear Matija,

I found your log through Julians log, which I follow (we happen to build the same kit). I am truly amazed by your work and craftsmanship.

Keep up the good work, as it is inspiring to look at.

Fair winds and following seas,

Beautiful build Matija!

I have a question . . .   What paint did you use for below the waterline please, and where did you get it? Here in Turkey I have ongoing problems sourcing things like paint of the right colours. Sometimes I find them in the UK or Germany but they won't send them here and sometimes I see in Turkey what will may be OK but their payment methods are 19th century   :( and I have to find a friend with a particular type of credit card. It's an on-going nuisance.

I think I have solved my earlier problems with wood as I have found suppliers in Istanbul and Germany so things are improving, but slowly.

Thanks.

If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself.

Matija, I just went through all the build again, beautiful work. It is easy to get lost in all the small details you have made so well.
