Pinco Genovese by Angarfather - FINISHED

Recommended Posts

Altough Gianna is a smal ship 110 blocks are needed.

I made the violin blocks konventionel from one piece of wood.

The others are glued up from layers of 1mm walnut stripes.

One of the ready single blockstripes

The result is a smal frame from walnut.

The slices for the smal blocks are made from 3mm soldering wire.

The slices for the other blocks are made from 4mm brass.

Hello Angarfather,

you are doing a great job!

I recently found this painting of a genovese pinco, dated around 1700 and I remembered your WIP.

It represent the pinco named "Nostra Signora dell'Acquasanta" (more or less: "Our Virgin Mary of the holy water") during a fighting against two Ottoman ships (possibly an ex-voto?).

I thought that it can be of interest, since you are in the rigging step and since it is an original source of informations.

In addition (but it is too late to be of interest for you) the other two photos represent an original model dated around 1780-1820 of a pinco.

This model is owned by the Naval Engineering Dept. of the University of Genova.

I hope that the provided material can be of interest for your model building.

Pincos crew are only six hands and the skipper. Therefore they used such big tackles to work with the latin yards.

Thanks to Patrick and all who "liked" it.

I had sails on a model 12 years ago. But a latin rigged ship without sails looks a little bit poor to my eyes. Fortunately my Admiral sewed the sails! I am very clumsy in needlework.

Hartmut,

thats a wonderful model, it is very well done I`m curious what the other sails will look like, must be a beautiful sight, judging by that mounted aft sail, and your wife did a good Job on the sewing, I also like the carvings and the leaf Gold plated decors

Modelling is more to me than just craftmansshipp, it is always a little dreaming.
