Omega1234 Posted January 30, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 30, 2015 Hi everyone My miniature version of Pandora (using Anatomy of the Ship plans) was started about 5 years ago, but to this day, remains semi-completed. The reason for not completing it was ...yep...you guessed it...I got scared of doing the masting and rigging! This, in spite of building the Victory as well as Bounty and Lennox, all of which were three masted ships with extensive rigging! You'd think I wouldn't have any problems and would be eager to rig this model, but, to no avail. One day I will finish her...I promise. In the meantime, I'll update the build log with more instalments over the next few days. Hope you enjoy the first lot of pictures. Omega1234 Posted January 30, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted January 30, 2015 Hi Mike Many thanks. I believe the scale was 1/96, because it was the same size as the AOTS plans. The size of the ship is almost exactly 12.5 inches long, with a beam of 2.5 inches. The frames were laminated from walnut strips, whilst the deck beams and sundry bits and pieces were made from jarrah. The deck planks were made from birch veneer. Hope this helps! I built one at 1/48 scale and had trouble with my big fingers and the small parts. You have probably noticed a lot of the details in the AOS book have the wrong scale in the description just use your best judgment as to the size of the parts. Mike - you're right about the differing scales in the AOTS book...took me a while to figure that one out, but all was good in the end! Bob - thanks for your comments as well. In terms of learning, I've learnt buckets from your models, especially the masting and rigging, so to hear your comment is a huge compliment! I have to admit, Bob, my stove doesn't look anywhere near as good as yours in your Friendship Sloop, though. Here're some more Pandora shots... Hope you enjoy.
