    Hi everyone. I am George. I'm 48 years old, and enjoy trying new things. In the past I have taken on stained glass projects, putting together guitars, making cheese from scratch, and growing (edible...not magical) mushrooms. I just like to try new things. Now I am going to try my hand at building a wooden ship model. Though tempted to go big or go home, I have decided to go with the Constructo model of Ernest Hemingway's fishing boat, Pilar. I chose it because the planking looks straight forward, the size is relatively small, and that Hemingway was cool. Anyway, I am sure I will have some questions over the next many weeks, and I am sure you will all be helpful. Best regards, George B.

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build.
