Hi everyone, my name is Bob and I live in the great state of Missouri where our motto is "Show Me", really, no kidding it is. Kind of goes with this forum, don't you think?
Anyway, I'm a mechanical engineer that's a whisker away from retirement. I've looked at wood ship modeling several times in the past and found the hobby very attractive. I have no experience with wood ship modeling but have restored a 77 MGB from stem to stern (so to speak).
So, with retirement just around the corner, I'm looking at getting into the hobby. I've been reading threads and watching videos. Sometimes I get excited and can't wait to lay a keel and add some ribs and then later, I see some of the delicate intricate work being done and say Wow, you think you can do that?
I have ordered, as suggested on this site, Mastini's Ship Modeling Simplified and Mondfeld's Historic Ship Models.
I'm thinking about ordering Model Shipways 18th Century Longboat starter kit with tools 1:48 scale for my first project. What do you think about that? I would like to follow that with the Bluenose.
With warm regards,
bob
