  1. Dredd started following belay pins

    currently working on a scratch build of the Brandenburg Berlin (1674) and all the Berlins on this site show belay pins on the gunwales and railings. It is my understanding that belay pins did not come into fashion till around early to mid 1700's (1720 and up ) Being this ship was of German origin not British is it possible that the were ahead of the game or were lines and falls tied off to kevels cleats and railing like most ships of her time ? Any advice would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build.
