  1. Okay so work on the boat has been slow but relatively steady. I decided to just paint the whole hull white and not worry about the paper frieze, I picture my version more of a work boat than one in the Museum. Almost at the point of finishing the hull and mounting it to a base before starting on rigging. Need to do the ironwork (blackening solution on order) add airlocks and touch up the paint.
  2. Good morning/afternoon/evening all, Getting back into ship modeling after a long hiaitus. Went to a couple Washington Ship Model Society meetings 1999-2000, previous builds include the old Midwest kits, 1:350 Missouri, and 1:350 OHP frigate. Working on the Model Shipways Launch with the Vanguard Models HMS Sherbourne waiting (I started and abandoned the Caldercraft Sherbourne about 20 years ago). Served 10 years on active duty in the US Coast Guard including a couple years on the old Iris-class buoytenders. When I am not restarting my model shipbuilding, I write poetry. I have self-published a book of haikus in dad joke form titled "Dadkus" and if you want to see more you can go to this link for the book The build logs from you all are really inspiring
  3. Thanks Ryland. It has been enjoyable so far, plenty of problem solving for a little boat.
  4. Greetings all, Starting a build log for a bit of accountability for myself and to learn from all of you. I did 10 years active duty in the Coast Guard and hey the username was available so her I am. Starting with this model after a long hiatus from wooden ships, common refrain of kids and life. Next up on the slipways is the Vanguard HMS Sherbourne. Just finished planking and currently cleaning up the hull and frames. Updates will probably be infrequent due to travel-heavy work schedule.
