  1. I appreciate everyone's input on the planking. I'm just so nervous about messing it up. I'll see what I can use to dig out the pins. I know that I read somewhere that they would all have to be filed down, but I think removing them would be a little easier.
  2. Because of being new at this, I'm not sure how to continue with planking. Hopefully I don't have to rip any of them off, but I'm not sure. If anyone has any suggestions, comments or tips by all means please let me know. This is getting a second covering. This is an OcCre albatros.
  3. Well I'm now working on planking hopefully this is looking alright. If anyone has any input by all means please feel free to critique the work. Keep in mind that there will be a second covering over this and I'll be using a filler to smooth everything out before the last covering.

  4. This is an OcCre albatros 1/100 from which I've read it a ship of their own design.
  5. Being new to all of this could anyone explain why it is that I'm to start planking in the middle and not start from like maybe the bulwarks?
  6. In the meantime while looking at this I was trying to dry fit to wrap it to the bow and of course, it broke right at the bend. So I've glue it and I'll wait to see how it looks.
  7. Yes it will be planked. It's planked on one side already that's on the inside, once glued in place the other will be planked.
  8. That would be a good idea but I had to put veneer on the bulwark that goes on the inside and the actual bulwark piece is one solid board as this is an OcCre kit.
  9. Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas, tips or tricks for attaching the bulwarks. Since I'm new to this and my first build, I'm not sure because of the bend, I don't want to break the pieces. I have the one dry clamped as seen in the photo. The directions don't say other than to attach them on both sides. Also what kind of glue does everyone use? I've been using gorilla wood glue that dries clear and just starbond super glue which hasn't been too pleasant as I kinda get it all over my fingers lol.
  10. I was wondering if anyone had some ideas, tips or tricks to attach the bulwarks in the photo. As of now I only have the one side dry clamped and I'm not sure how to go about getting the rest of it attached to the bow section as I don't want to break it. I'm assuming probably maybe soak it in water. Also what kind of glue do y'all use? I've got gorilla wood glue and just some kind of super glue. Which the super glue is a pain getting it all on my fingers, lol.

Hi Sean, welcome to MSW. If you don’t receive any replies to this Status Post you could try asking the question in the Building, Framing, Planking, and Plating A Ship’s Hull and Deck Forum. You could also ask the question in your Albatros build log. Good Luck!

  11. Hello all, I'm Sean. Completely green to model ship building. I wanted to give it a go as I rather enjoy putting things together. I did a bit of research before deciding to go with a ship to see what would be involved as far as all the tools I would end up needing and what kind of complexity this modeling involves. Decided to go with the OcCre Albatross 1/100 for my first as they said it was a beginner kit. So I've begun, put together the false keel and put decking on so far. Made a little mistake with decking as I followed the directions but didn't think about it until it was too late that in a small section the deck boards don't line up.
