  1. Zara by Chuck B

This is my rendition of the Italian Heavy Cruiser Zara, built from the 1/350 Trumpeter kit. The kit’s railings were over scale so I made my own, including the leadsman’s platforms.  Over half the parts used to build the model were either aftermarket or scratch built pieces. The teak decks were airbrushed via my plank-on-plank masking and pin washing technique.

  2. USS San Francisco 1939 by Chuck B

This is my 1/350 scale USS San Francisco, converted from the 1942 Trumpeter kit to 1939. The finished model contains 1,020 scratch built and aftermarket pieces, and took 1,108 hours to build. One of the black and white photos is the USS Quincy, San Francisco’s   twin sister. The other is a photo of the model, cut out with an X Acto knife and glued to the background of the Quincy photo. The turret tops and SOC Seagulls have historically correct markings. I cut up the wings on one plane and reattached them in their folded position.

  3. Admiral Chabanenko by Chuck B

This is my rendition of Trumpeter’s 1/350 Russian Udaloy II destroyer kit. I added 451 scratch built styrene and photo etched metal pieces to the kit parts I used, for a total of 880 pieces. The hull and deck colors of the model were airbrushed with custom mixes of Tamiya acrylic paints. Construction time was 821 hours.
Please note that the Kamov 27 helicopter being pulled into its hangar is taller than the hangar roof because the hangar floor has not yet been lowered to allow the roof to be slid shut.

  4. IJN Mogami by Chuck B

This is my rendition of Trumpeter's 1/350 kit, which depicts the Japanese heavy cruiser Mogami after the refits that turned her from her original form into an aircraft-carrying cruiser. To build this model I added 823 scratch-built and aftermarket pieces to 502 parts from the kit. It took 1,011 hours to complete.

  7. Fiume 1938

This is my rendition of the Italian Heavy Cruiser Fiume as she was in 1938. I used the Trumpeter 1/350 kit, but opted not to use the camo depicted on the box art and in their color charts. I had to correct the boat deck shape and replace bulwarks, also added the flag rack, which surrounds the aft funnel.
