    Thanks for the advice! In hindsight it appears almost self evident that I would have to pre-shape the planks, perhaps that's why the instructions didn't even bother mentioning it. Once against thank you!

    Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen, I am currently in the process of building my first planking project with Model Shipways Gunboat Philadelphia. I constructed the rabbet per the instruction and currently in the process of planking. While the planks fit into the rabbet, I cannot seem to make the ends of the planks rest flush against the stem and stern post. Should I have cut the ends of the plank at an angle? I apologize in advance if this has already be discussed. Thanks! Best, Fritzie

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build.
