  1. HMS MIMI by Ras Ambrioso, 1/24 scale, 1915 Fast Motor Launch

This model was scratch built over a molded hull from Deans Marine. Mimi and its sister Toutou made an 18,000 miles journey from England to Cape Town and then to lake Tanganyika in the middle of Africa to fight the Germans during WW I.

  2. Emma C Berry by Ras Ambrioso - Sloop Rigged Smack

This Model Shipways kit is based on drawings and data from the original ship. It was my first adventure at planking and the photos will confirm it. I completed  this kit in January 2021 and placed it in display at the lobby of my residence building. Just now the model was returned to me and , thus, this gallery.
It was not and easy kit since it was the first time I do a fully rigged sailing boat model. It was a fantastic learning project.

  3. Patricia by Ras Ambrioso, Krick, 1/24 scale

I built this kit in 1998 while on assignment in Birmingham, Ala. The kit had a fiberglass hull and a two cylinder steam engine with its boiler. I set her up for Radio Control and successfully sailed her in our Florida lakes

  4. African Queen by Ras Ambrioso - Billings Boats - 1/24 scale

I built this R/C steam launch in eighties. As you may see in the photos I changed the design a bit to make room for the electronics. The engine provided in the kit, a single oscillating cylinder, was not capable of moving the boat so I cheated a bit by installing an electric motor and covered it with the structure that you can see in the photos that provided a good spot for the steering wheel. The captain is one my tokens from the time I purchased my first real boat. The second photo shows the kit's version with the seating arrangement and the canvas sun cover.

  5. Scottish Fifie by Ras Ambrioso - Amati - 1/32 scale

This was my second POF model kit. Started January 31, 2021. On August 2021, I stopped the build to concentrate on a scratch-built model of the cruiser Amapá. By that date I had completed most of the Fifie with several details remaining. A couple of weeks ago I decided to come back and finish in order to display it on an exhibit at my residence building. I want to thank this forum for their support and encouragement.

The Fifies were and still are popular herring (“silver darlings”) drift-net fishing boats still operating on the northern coasts of Scotland. Originally, they were powered by sail, then steam and finally diesel. My model represents a ship just being unloaded in their home port of Wick. The mizzen mast holds a sail (not shown) that helps control the boat drift.

I named this boat with my Admiral’s name as she has been a great support while I wondered to my “shipyard” for hours.

    Thanks for looking.

  6. Amapá by Ras Ambrioso. 1907 Brazilian Customs Cruiser

This is my first scratch built model. I had the plans since 1996 and finally got to do the build. I want to thank the members of this forum that followed me and that provided so much support and advise.
