    Hello all: I am a relatively new wooden ship builder (and an experienced plastic model builder). Currently working on MSY's 18thC Longboat and Victory Models' HM Bomb Vessel Granado. looking forward to connecting with builders in Canada as well as anyone who has built - or is building - Granado.

    Greetings from the GTA! I share your frustration with the high prices for kits here in Canada (especially when factoring in duties on overseas shipping). I do know that Great Hobbies has an Ottawa location and they do stock wood kits and tools/supplies. Hopefully you will find what you're looking for. -Mark

    Hello, all: I am a long-time plastic model builder (mostly military but not exclusively)...After buying and endlessly reading Frank Mastini's excellent book almost 2 decades ago, I have finally taken the plunge with my first two "real" wood kits: Model Shipways' 18th Century Longboat, and (a gift from my wife) Victory Models' HM Bomb Vessel 'Granado'. I plan to start a couple of build logs to help gauge my progress and actively take in advice. Looking forward to learning from you all... -Mark

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal.
