  1. O.K. as I am a beginner, I'm trying to figure out how to determine the length of the rowlock pads on the norwegian sailing pram. On page 19 of the directions, It talks about marking off 3" segments (?) so I'm trying to determine the length. As a pure rough guess, I'm thinking about 1 1/4 " for each pad. But I'm trying to figure out how to accurately determine the length. strider 47

      Strider47,

As you say, on page 19 the instructions describe “each is 9” long. Mark off 3” segments…” which is referring to full scale measurements. Since the Pram is 1:12 scale, you’ll need to convert the 9 inch and 3 inch measurements to be 1/12 that length. A scale ruler is helpful to do this, but if 1 inch = ~ 2.54 cm, then 9 inches X 2.54 cm/inch = 22.86 cm. Next concert to scale so 22.86 cm / 12 = ~ 1.9 cm. We can then subdivide that to 3 sections, 1.9 / 3 = ~ 0.63 cm.

So we got a total length for the pad at 1.9 cm (9”) and each of the 3” sections actually measuring 0.63 cm.

As I said, much easier done with a scale ruler because then you don’t have to compound approximations as I have done in the above.

The instructions will often refer to things at full scale and need conversion to 1:12 scale.

Hope this is helpful and please let me know if that explanation makes sense or something else is giving you any trouble.

P.S. I highly encourage starting a build log as I’ve found members of this forum very eager to help and much more knowledgeable than I am.
