I've never heard of Sterling,but Laughing Whale was bought by Billings Boats. From what I've read, the laughing whale kits don't have good instructions. They look like nice kits though.

I used balsa blocks in the bow and stern of my Charles Morgan and it worked well. Just take your time shaping it so you don't rip chunks out of it.

That's a great looking steam ship-another type of boat I would like to build,but the price tags always change my mind. Look forward to seeing pics of your Dory.

From the pictures I've seen of them,most have a white hulls and light blue or natural wood inside. I've also seen black hulls. Model Shipways makes a good paint,but I've never tried another brand. Are you doing a build log? I've had my eye on this boat for a long time.
