  1. WOW! Thanks for the feedback Bob. That is a fantastically comprehensive review. I will have to re-read it a few times to take it all in. This is my first time build and i know there was lots that i didn't know while i was doing it. The kit instructions for masts and rigging were just pictures with no explanations at all so i had to guess stuff and google stuff. and i was never truly happy with how things were going. I looked at a lot of other posts and pictures similar to the one you inserted and i know mine never looked like that. The rigging cord was all part of the kit which was Artesania Latina which i thought from reading was supposed to be a good beginners model. But it looks like i have a lot more to learn. I did follow the colors of rigging as there were only the two choices and if i didn't i wouldn't have had enough but it seems there are better choices. I think this is good though. Rather than dive into a more complex build i can try to improve on this one. cheers
  2. Hi all, I am getting close to the end of my cross section San Francisco and now notice that the lines all look frayed. I don't know why this happened. Any ideas? What can i do to prevent it in the first place or fix it up now. I ran my was stick across some of the longer ones and that seems to work but it requires quite a bit of force to grab the line and slide the wax along, so i'd never be able to do it on the smaller lines.
  3. Hi All, This is the Artesania San Fancicso cross section. Clearly this middle deck in on a slant but i don't know why. I should have spotted this when putting on the middle deck base as it was not touching the 2 spars in the middle. The photos show that the end Rib (excuse my terminology if its not right) is flush with the keel piece and the middle deck piece is sitting flush on it. This is identical to the other end which is correct. The last photo shows a pencil mark of how much higher that end Rib is if i put a spirit level across the other 3 ribs. Going forward i can adjust that last Rib so that the top deck will be flat
  4. Hi All, I've always wanted to build a "tall ship". I've modeled plastic planes, Train scenery but never done anything in wood. So, taking advice from this forum I'm going to start small and see what's involved before forking out $1200+. I'm going to start with a cross section San Francisco Galleon. I think it has enough of all the elements involved for starters then try something that requires more Hull planking, bending and so on. My goal is to build HMS Sirius (1786) (being an Aussie). cheers
