While researching the frigate Medea 1778 I came across the fact that after being launched in Bristol she was sent on to Plymouth for her copper plates to be painted with white lead. My question is, as I have never come across this practice before, would it a regular technique or did some other improvement take place soon after.
I have never seen copper plates painted white on models so would this be a first.
Philip Reed, Modelling Sailing Men of War, Period Ship Modelmaking and Building a Miniature Navy Board Model are exceptional books. Though minature modelling his techniques can apply to any scale.
