Has anyone had the experience of blackening their cast pewter cannon with Micro Engineering's Rail Weather Solution which contains selenious acid, cuperic nitrate, ammonium floride. I don’t want to paint the cannon black and the idea struck me that the ME solution I have and never used may just do the trick. Could then use some washes to enhance the contrast in different areas.

Anyway, any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. The cannon will be use on the1773 Triton Cross Section.

Pewter blackening agent works best (Jax or another brand, though jewelry supply houses). However, if the metal has been cast, it has a layer of mould release on the surface that defies colouring. First you will need to abrade the surface to get rid of this layer to get satisfactory results.
