Trimming Bulkhead Extensions

I have built 4 ModelExpo ships and this is the first time I had to do this step. I am building the Model Expo Prince de Neufchatel and the instructions state that prior to planking the inner bulwarks I need to trim the above deck bulkhead extensions since they are 3/16" and the gunport and oakports are 1/16" (see attached photos). I do not have a clue how to trim 2/16" from the bulkhead extensions. I don't think a Dremel tool with a cutting wheel or an Xacto knife will work. I am looking for advice on how to tackle this step.
