  1. Hello, I'm Alan from France .Admin of Wooden Ship Modelling (Modélisme Naval Bois) and member of AAMM, The Friends of National Maritime Museum, Paris. I'm currently building the frigate Surprise. Kit bashing based on AL model. First of all, my documentation. As L'Unité a 26-gun corvette by Pierre-Alexandre Forfait, one of the greatest french naval architects. Plan The original plans of L'Unité and her 5 sister-ships are lost. I'm working on the plan draught by John Marshall in february 1798 during her refit. Artillery As rearmed after the Jamaican campaing. Gun-deck, 24 long-guns 9 pdr Quarterdeck, 4 long-guns 4 pdr + 4 carronades 12pdr Forecastle, 4 long-guns 4 pdr (2 chasers + 2) + 4 carronades 12 pdr Wood Lime and sapelli supplied by AL, double-planking in pearwood, box and ebony. And now, a few pics. Curved planks of gun-deck. Weaving shuttle shaped floor of Great Cabin (A french tradition). Shuttles in mahogany. Cutting of frames and knees. Too thick!

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build.
