    Thanks all for your replies. @Dan - yes I was wondering about that. I am also thinking about building the Sirius longboat to hone my planking skills. It's a smaller model (and cheaper) model which shouldn't take long to do. I'll check out your build log as well. Thanks for sharing.

    Hi All Recently found this site and have been browsing through the forums, What an incredible wealth of information! I'm new to the hobby, having started out with the Sirius Deck Cannon from Modeller's Shipyard to see if I had the goods. It didn't turn out to badly, so I'm now building the Corel Victory Cross Section. I figured that a cross-section would probably expose me to most of the different skills I'd need when I go for the real deal. Next in line is probably the Sirius from Modeller's Shipyard (to learn planking) and if I make a good fist of that I want to build the Victory or another ship of the line. Looking forward to following build logs and meeting some of you Cheers Grant

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build.
