Gotcha. Yea there is no way I would buy that lol. I was just looking through eBay for something totally different and it popped up in my suggestion feed. I guess because I’ve been looking at ships models on eBay , but the “real” deal. 😉

What is this all about? How are these things so cheap? I guess because of the cheap material? I can’t even make out if the kit includes planks?
-
Thanks! Definitely going to check that out.

Gotcha. I will indeed use the book. I hope to eventually learn the proper way though. Thanks again!

Thanks for the advice. The book on the right is very detailed and somewhat confusing so I’ll take that kind advice.

Well I’ve had them for a bit lol

Sounds like a plan then. Thanks for the feedback.

So my wife bought me the Artesania Latina Santa Maria ship for Christmas and was going to start on that but I was given this kit by a friend who said I should start on this one instead then move on to the Maria. It doesn’t appear as complicated. What do you guys suggest?

Does anyone know where I can find instructions for the Heller 1/130 Cutty Sark Ship? I’ve looked everywhere. Bought a kit from someone and it has the Mayflower NOT the Sark instructions in it.

Thank you for the comments ! I use water colors and oils for the wood grain effects. -

I had this in the wrong area. I’ve been working on this kit forever. I love the Wingnut Wings line of kits and have several of them. A tremendous amount of detail can be added to an already detailed model. -
Thanks again everyone for the information and encouragement.

Thank you for the response! I will check the bounty jolly boat out.

Thank you very much. I will definitely do that. I mentioned to my wife I wanted to start trying to build a wooden ship model and well...she took that to heart and bought me the Artesania Latina Santa Maria kit 😲. I was like ummmm...wow, thanks! I also said to myself , must take baby steps first so I think I’ll need a more basic build lol. Thanks again!

Hi my name is Rusty and I’m new and green to the gills with wooden ship models. I’ve been a life long figure and plastic modeler but have always wanted to venture into this hobby. I hope to learn a lot here. Thanks for allowing me to join the forum. BTW...any suggestions for a kit for a first time builder would be appreciated !

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
