    So, for acrylics, just prepare the acrylic paint for air brushing (lacquer thinner, gloss), then apply and weather with the assistance of a little water?

    I've seen builders on YT using AK weathering for salt, rust, deck wash, etc. AK are enamel based. Can you use this over an acrylic paint base? I've always thought you shouldn't paint enamel over acrylic...

    Hello all! I'm new back to the ship modeling hobby after a 20 year hiatus. Currently looking for rigging/rope for a 1/700 IJN Shoho aircraft carrier that I'm building. I've hunted around and looks like somewhere between 0.047-0.13mm would roughly be the correct diameter? What would be the best brands for this?

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build.
