  1. @Alleks050 Apologies for not responding, I've only just seen your comment!!   I don't understand your point about larger & smaller drums here?  The windlass is an octagonal section only.  Some instances had this tapered so fatter on the inboard side, but not all.   Harland (Seamanship in the Age of Sail p263) states "The cable was taken three times round the barrel, the turns coming off the top, the inboard part being kept to the outer end to facilitate fleeting the turns".  I agree I've got the inboard part on the inner end, which is contrary to this, but I don't see why this would still not work.  Is this what you mean?

As you can probably see I took a huge amount of inspiration and enthusiasm from your suburb build log for your Pickle.  It was my bible throughout this build.  I agreed with a number of your improvements - the shape of the stern, the cut down boats mounted amidships, and many others and learned a lot of tips & techniques from your build. I am indebted to you, sir.  I did follow your analysis for the mast heights, mused deeply and eventually went with the model heights as these were very close to the proportions I took from Robert Dodd's painting which, as this was probably painted with Capt. Lapenotiere's input, I took to be the closest thing we have to a photograph of Pickle.  Probably the foremast should have a little less rake though.  This is also where the added single black strake through the gun ports comes from.
