Hello All! I got some Minwax Wipe on poly, warm satin, love the material, using a brush to spread it and a rag to remove wet residue after about a minute of spreading. How many coats would you do? Instructions say 2-3 coats, any advice or experience? I want good protection but at the same time like to complete this at some points!

Gurus, if I have bad Shellac ir too thick of a layer, of course on option is to clean up with alcohol and reapply, but Can I sand down with 600 grit and reapply? Or has to be cleaned with alcohol? I am also asking you all if a final coat of Poly can fix this issue and hardens Shellac and hardens itself?

Hello Everyone, I am building Occre Santisima Trinidad, I used Shellac, Zinsser Bulleye Sealcoat and applied 4-5 coats as sealer and finish for the mahogany hull, I love the outcome, Let each coat dry for 4-6 hours and final coat for 3 days. The issue I am facing is, after setting the model upright on Occre workbench, Although the cloth is soft, after a day it left some marks in finished Hull, can be seen like a missed spot or worn off, where the pressure is applied, what should I do? Is this normal? Should I apply another coat or two and let it dry longer? Or should I use Poly or maritime Varnish on Shellac, my product is wax free so I think you can apply any Varnish finish on it, anybody else experienced something like this? Any help or comment would be appreciated!

Hello All, I am building OCCRE Santísima Trinidad kit, done with Hull planking which is Sapele wood, the only Wood putty Occre sells is White, not sure if I use White wood putty to cover cracks, how I can match the Sapele color, Other option is to use Mahogany wood putty which is Red Mahogany and not a complete match for Sapele, anybody had experience matching Sapele wood color with what is available in USA?

Hello Everyone, I am learning from multiple forums here that Shellac is a perfect sealer/finish for almost all surfaces. I am building OCcre Santisima and the hull is Sapelli wood and love the natural color of it so I am going to apply 2-3 coats of clear Shellack and sand in between. My only concern is, I am hearting Shellac has durability issues compared to varnish, like exposure to heat and moisture but wondering for a model ship, we dont out them next to humid areas or extreme heat anyways! Any advice/feedback/experience on Shellac durability issues? Thanks in advance!

Hello All, I am building the Occre Santisma, getting to plank the hull, I am watching several videos and everyone is either using Cobbler Glue or supper glue for planking the hull. Can we use White glue for planking a hull? I am terrified of using CA or super glue as they run all over and also dry too quickly giving you no time for adjustments and also no mistake should be made! I know using white glue will take longer and need a lot of clamping technique, but like the fact you have some time. Also, any difference in general between super glue and Cobbler/Contact glue? Instructions say use Cobbler glue not super glue, I am not sure if they are the same indeed. Thanks a lot for your help, in advance.

@Jaager Thanks a lot, this is great information, I am building Santisima Occre so I think the hull planks are Mapelli strips, I am not that advanced to know if the wood specie has open pores or not, But learning here, I can literally use Shellac on Bare wood as sealer and finish and I really like it. I know you can use Polyurethane also for sealer and finish altogether, But I think Shellac is easier to use, I can be very wrong though!

Hello All, I am a new member, what a great website and community, happy to be a part of it now, I am working on my first model ship, Occre Santisima Trinidad, The hull planks are Sapelli, they have a very nice natural look to them, almost same as the photo (just an example I found on internet, this is not my build, it is too good to be be my build! ) I am sharing and I don't want to paint it, just want to varnish it Matte to show the natural wood but also protect it. My question is, when it is completed, Are you supposed to use any wood sealer and then Varnish or just couple coats of Varnish does the sealing and protecting? Also, I desperately need recommendations on Varnish and Wood sealers, I was looking on Amazon US and there are so many options but need some specific recommendations! Thank you all.
