Mercury Brig, 1820

1/64th scale Modified kit by Victory Models/Amati. I built this model approximately ten years ago but didn’t have an opportunity to take high-quality photos until recently. This was one the first models I built that was designed by Vanguard’s Chris Watton for Amati ‘s high-end Victory range in the early 2000’s; I learned a lot about rigging and this one remains one of my favorites. For a relatively “small” frigate (built in England for the Russians), it has an outsized “presence” viewed alongside its bigger brethren. I substituted boxwood planking for the bulwarks as well as masts and spars.
