Built in 1853 in Rockland ME, the Red Jacket made a record run for sailing cargo ships on her first voyage from NY to Liverpool. The record still stands today at 13 days, 1 hour, 25 minutes. When built, her bottom was painted, but when she left England, they had coppered her bottom.
